Brentford
Playing on Friday night means Brentford have had a bit more preparation time than most for the midweek round of Premier League fixtures and the team cannot have much more confidence after crushing Leicester City at the King Power Stadium. The only disappointment as far as the fans are concerned is that Brentford had a considerable break in their schedule coming up and that is because the team have already exited the FA Cup.
Despite that, the Brentford faithful have to be incredibly impressed with the continued good work being done by Thomas Frank on the training ground and those behind the scenes in identifying talent. Playing in any European competition next season remains the dream for The Bees who are 11th in the Premier League table, but only 7 points behind the top four places. The side have a 7-2-4 record at the Gtech Community Stadium this season and return home after a successful couple of away days.
Brentford have won 3 of their last 4 Premier League games, although all of those victories have been away from home and the exception in that run is the defeat here to Tottenham Hotspur. That defeat actually means Brentford have been beaten in 5 of their last 6 home games in all competitions since early December.
Christian Norgaard should overcome an illness to return to the squad, but the likes of Mathias Jensen and Sepp van den Berg will have to wait until at least the next Premier League fixture.
Everton
David Moyes has returned to Goodison Park as manager of Everton and has refused to take a look at the new Stadium that the club are moving into until the Premier League status for next season has been secured. He might be a touch frustrated that Everton were not able to move three points closer to their final goal when leading Manchester United 2-0 at the weekend, but the point that was eventually secured keeps the momentum behind the players.
It also means Everton are now 14 points clear of the relegation zone with twelve League fixtures to play and any worries about dropping out of the top flight have been erased under David Moyes' guidance. The Toffees make the long journey down to West London with a 3-4-5 away record in the Premier League and Everton have scored just 9 goals in those matches.
Everton have kept the points ticking over, but the 2-2 draw with Manchester United does mean they have won 1 of their last 4 games in all competitions. That run includes a disappointing exit in the FA Cup Fourth Round, although Everton's victory was also in London when beating Crystal Palace 1-2 at Selhurst Park earlier this month. That result not only means Everton have lost 1 of their last 5 away Premier League games, but they have won consecutive away League fixtures at Brighton and Palace.
Nathan Patterson and Jesper Lindstrom are both hoping to be passed fit for this one, although the latter is perhaps closer having been ill last Saturday. A number of other squad players will be hoping to use the upcoming ten day break between fixtures to return to training and the match day squad.
Head to Head
A controversial sending off meant Brentford had to batten down the hatches in a goalless draw at Goodison Park earlier this season.
Brentford won the first game hosted against Everton at the Gtech Community Stadium, but the last two have ended 1-1 and 1-3 to the away team last season.
Prediction
This is the kind of Premier League game that can be very difficult to call with very little separating Everton and Brentford on any given day.
Hosting might make a difference, but that has not been the case for Brentford in recent weeks with the best results being earned away from the Gtech Community Stadium.
Thomas Frank's team have played well in recent weeks at home, but the tougher fixtures that have been played have made it difficult to pick up positive results here. Arguably they deserved better when losing to Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur and drawing with Manchester City, but Brentford have had to make do with what they have gotten.
They are still challenging for European places in the Division, although Brentford may need to find some big results in the coming weeks when the fixture list looks tougher again.
Even this game is far from easy with Everton finding solid form under David Moyes and scoring the goals that were lacking under predecessor Sean Dyche. Beto has found a new lease of life under Moyes and Everton have also secured consecutive away Premier League victories, which deserves respect.
However, they were second best when winning at Selhurst Park and capitalised on wastefulness from Crystal Palace, as well as a big home mistake that gave Everton the lead on the day.
Recent games between the clubs have tended to favour Everton, but Brentford looked really good against Leicester City and they will cause a lot of problems for the visiting team.
No matter the final score, you have to believe it is Brentford who will create the better chances and that makes them worth backing at odds against.
Everton have put in a lot of effort into recent fixtures and they may struggle to contain a Brentford attack that has continued to look dangerous. Only a wasteful display cost them against Tottenham Hotspur when hosting them earlier this month, but Brentford showed a clinical touch in beating Leicester City convincingly on Friday and they may just edge to the three points here and really have the fans thinking about dusting off the passport for a European adventure next season.
