Fulham
Marco Silva has not been very happy with the two performances produced by Fulham since returning to action after the March international break, but there is still time to turn things back around. The FA Cup Quarter Final defeat last Saturday will have stung, and Fulham were not quite good enough on Tuesday when losing at the Emirates Stadium, although Silva refused to entertain any excuses for what he considers to be below par levels of performance.
Playing European Football is still very important for a club like Fulham and they are in a position to produce a strong end to the campaign and play in one of the three UEFA run competitions next time around. Bouncing back from the defeat on Tuesday is very important and Fulham have a 6-5-4 record at Craven Cottage in the top flight.
Fulham had been in fine form prior to the last international break, but the two defeats since then does mean they have been beaten in 3 of their last 4 in all competitions. Finding consistency at home has not been easy for Fulham who have won 3 and lost 3 over their last 6 at Craven Cottage, although they have not been beaten twice in a row here since April last year.
A number of changes were made by the manager to just keep players as fresh as possible and the likes of Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi may start on Sunday. Both Kenny Tete and Harry Wilson are edging closer to a return, but this weekend comes too soon.
Liverpool
It was far from a perfect performance and Liverpool may even feel they were a little bit fortunate to not fall behind in the Merseyside derby on Wednesday. However, the flip to that comment is that Everton could easily have been reduced to ten men on another night and Liverpool did just enough to edge to the three points and move that much closer to winning the Premier League title.
Once again they are 12 points clear of Arsenal going into this round of fixtures and another game has been scrubbed off the list. The Reds will play second again this weekend, which means the gap could potentially be back down to single digits, although Liverpool's only focus has to be on improving the 10-5-0 away record that has been compiled.
Liverpool have produced some nervy performances recently and losing consecutive fixtures prior to the March international break would have been some cause for concern, although both were in the Cup settings. In the Premier League, Liverpool are unbeaten in 26 games and they have won 19 of those fixtures. They did beat Manchester City in their last away Premier League game having previously drawn 2-2 at Goodison Park and Villa Park.
Alisson and Conor Bradley are edging closer to a return, but this fixture potentially comes too soon. Trent Alexander-Arnold has been ruled out.
Head to Head
Liverpool and Fulham drew 2-2 at Anfield in December.
Fulham have not won any of their last 7 home games against Liverpool, but had drawn 3 in a row at Craven Cottage before losing 1-3 here in April 2024.
Prediction
Both Marco Silva and Arne Slot may not have been very satisfied with performances produced by Fulham and Liverpool respectively over the last week, but it is the League leaders who continue to find a way to win football matches.
That has simply not happened for Fulham after losing to Crystal Palace and Arsenal over the space of a few days following the return from the March international break.
Some of the flatness around the performances was attributed to the long travel that players had to deal with and Marco Silva made a number of changes for the Premier League game at Arsenal. Despite that, he was not very happy with what he saw from the players and will have been working them hard on the training ground for a positive reaction.
Fulham are still in the chase for European spots in the Premier League and have eight important games left with that ambition in mind. However, they have struggled for any kind of consistency at home and Silva will be hoping that this is the day where a strong performance can be found.
To the credit of the players, they have avoided losing back to back home fixtures this season and Fulham will expect much better than what was offered in the 0-3 defeat to Crystal Palace last Saturday.
They will need to do that if they are going to get the better of a Liverpool team that feel like they are almost falling over the line in the Premier League title race. No one can really dispute that the team have not played with the same intensity over the last month as they have produced for much of the previous six and Liverpool have perhaps been thankful for some wasteful finishing when teams have faced them.
Liverpool do offer a real threat the other way though and this could be a decent football match for the neutral to enjoy.
West London should have warm, but not hot, conditions for the players to perform in and both Fulham and Liverpool can offer a real threat in the final third.
You cannot ignore the Liverpool record this season, but they do look a short price to win at Fulham considering how well Marco Silva's men have competed with the top teams. Instead, backing at least three goals to be shared out at a similar price as the away win feels the better option with the expectation that an attacking fixture will be played out by two teams struggling defensively.
5 of the last 7 between Fulham and Liverpool have ended with at least three goals shared out, including in December at Anfield, and this could be another.
