Ipswich Town

Scoring first and failing to go on and win the game has happened far too often for Ipswich Town this season and relegation back to the Championship is an inevitability now. Keeping hold of Kieran McKenna and the majority of the squad will give Ipswich Town a good chance of bouncing back next time around, but back to back promotions through the Divisions was always going to make it difficult to survive in the Premier League.

Credit has to be given to the team for being in 18th place and offering more than the likes of Southampton and Leicester City, clubs that came up with Ipswich Town but who have much more recent top flight experience. Finishing up as strong as possible is all that The Tractor Boys will be thinking about now and McKenna will be keen to see them double their home win tally for the season.

Ipswich Town reached the FA Cup Fifth Round, but they have won 1 of their last 13 Premier League games and that was never going to be the form needed to avoid relegation. Last weekend they were 0-2 ahead at Stamford Bridge before pegged back for a draw and that means Ipswich Town have led in 4 of their last 6 Premier League games, but won once. Since beating Chelsea at Portman Road at the end of December, Ipswich Town have lost 6 straight Premier League games here.

Kalvin Phillips is set to miss out, while Omari Hutchinson is a doubt.

Arsenal

The late goal on Wednesday evening saw Arsenal win at the home of Real Madrid for the second time in two visits to the Santiago Bernabeu and they were comfortable winners in the Champions League Quarter Final. Fans will already be thinking about the huge Semi Final coming up against Paris Saint-Germain, but Mikel Arteta will want his players to maintain the momentum that has been secured.

Any Premier League title challenge looks beyond Arsenal now with a 13 point gap to leaders Liverpool, although a strong finish can just help the players remain focused. Only Everton have more overall draws in the Premier League than Arsenal, which have proven to be costly for The Gunners, and they have a 7-7-2 away record in the top flight.

Arsenal are unbeaten in 10 games in all competitions, but 4 of their last 6 Premier League fixtures have ended in draws and ultimately proved to be the problem in pushing for a real title challenge. Two late goals helped Arsenal to a 0-2 win at Leicester City, although they have since drawn each of their last 3 away League games.

The squad is still dealing with several injuries, but those that travelled to Madrid look to be ready to be involved this weekend. Mikel Arteta will make some changes to the starting lineup to just freshen things up with Ben White, Ethan Nwaneri and Leandro Trossard hoping to come into the team.

Head to Head

Arsenal beat Ipswich Town 1-0 at the Emirates Stadium earlier this season.

A late goal saw Ipswich Town beat Arsenal 1-0 at Portman Road in the League Cup Semi Final First Leg in January 2011, although Arsenal recovered in the Second Leg with a comfortable 3-0 victory.

Prior to that win, Ipswich Town had lost 6 of 7 when hosting Arsenal.

Prediction

All credit has to be given to Mikel Arteta and his coaching staff for the organisation they instilled into the Arsenal team when visiting Real Madrid in the Champions League Quarter Final Second Leg.

The 3-0 lead from the First Leg gave Arsenal a strong advantage, but they still had to show their character and resiliency and largely contained the Real Madrid threat.

That alone will have impressed the fans and given them the belief that Arsenal can win the Champions League for the first time, but the players will benefit plenty from actually winning the Second Leg thanks to a late Gabriel Martinelli goal.

Mikel Arteta may choose to make some changes for this fixture, but he will still be expecting his team to snap their recent run of Premier League draws. The title is now beyond them for all intents and purposes, but Arsenal will just want to make sure they do not leave the door open for those behind them in the race for Champions League places.

A visit to Ipswich Town will not be easy after Kieran McKenna's team battled for a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge last weekend, although the hosts have lost 6 in a row here since beating Chelsea at the end of December. The real concern has to be the amount of goals Ipswich Town have conceded at Portman Road and 7 of the 11 home defeats suffered in the Premier League have been by at least two goals.

Ipswich Town will look to get forward and create problems, but the defensive issues have continued to hold them back.

The spot in the schedule may not be a bad one when you think of the effort Arsenal put into the game on Wednesday, while Ipswich Town have had a week to prepare for the fixture. Even that may ultimately not be enough for the home team with the defensive vulnerabilities that have been clear to see and Arsenal could see their attackers do enough to secure a relatively comfortable victory to keep the positive vibes going at the club.
