Fulham
They pressed in the second half, but Fulham had been second best at Villa Park for large stretches of the fixture last Saturday and that has seen them lose ground on their rivals for a top eight finish. That place offers no guarantee of a spot in European competition and won't be confirmed until after the FA Cup Final, but Marco Silva's ambition remains the same to help Fulham finish as high as possible in the Division.
They slipped down to 11th in the Premier League table after results last weekend, but there are three fixtures left to play and Fulham are only 2 points behind Bournemouth in 8th position. The side are back at Craven Cottage this weekend where Fulham have a 7-5-5 record in the top flight having scored 26 goals and conceded 25 in those matches.
Fulham have been in relatively poor form since the March international break and the defeat at Villa Park means they have lost 5 of their last 7 games in all competitions, although both exceptions have been in winning performances. Last time out at home, Fulham had been leading Chelsea going into the final ten minutes, but were beaten 1-2 and that means they have won 4 and lost 4 of their last 8 games played here in all competitions.
Harrison Reed came on last weekend and picked up another knock and that means he is doubtful for this fixture.
Everton
Things looked to be going to plan in the penultimate fixture to be played at Goodison Park, but Everton were not able to build on their 2-0 lead over Ipswich Town last weekend and were pegged back in a 2-2 draw. David Moyes and his players will be looking to bounce back this weekend and the manager is also hoping the new Everton owners are going to be investing in bringing in more quality this summer.
The point earned at home did move Everton up into 14th place in the Premier League table last weekend and the fans will be largely satisfied with how things have panned out since the appointment of David Moyes. The Toffees have a 4-6-7 record away from home in the Premier League and that despite scoring just 12 goals in those fixtures.
Everton's failure to win last weekend has become a feature of recent performances and the side have been victorious in 1 of their last 10 games played. There is no doubt they have been tough to beat, but Everton have lost 2 of their last 3 away Premier League fixtures with those losses sandwiching the late win at Nottingham Forest.
Abdoulaye Doucoure was surprisingly missing last weekend and the hope is that he can overcome his knock to travel with the squad to West London.
Head to Head
A 90th minute goal earned Everton a 1-1 home draw with Fulham earlier this season and that does mean the last 3 between these clubs have ended in stalemate.
Fulham have not won any of 3 at home against Everton and the last two have ended in goalless draws at Craven Cottage.
Prediction
The expectation around this fixture before a price had been checked is that it would be a low-scoring game where a single goal could prove to be the difference on the day.
Recent Fulham games played at Craven Cottage have tended to see plenty of goals being scored, but Everton have proven to be a really good 'under' team and especially away from Goodison Park.
Losing James Tarkowski to injury has perhaps weakened Everton at the back, but they managed to contain Chelsea to a single goal a couple of weeks ago and they will certainly feel the Fulham attack is 'easier' to manage.
David Moyes' team do not score a lot of away goals, but they simply do not concede many and a tight fixture is expected at Craven Cottage.
The last 2 between these clubs at this ground have both ended goalless, and 6 of the last 7 overall have ended with two or fewer goals shared out.
Fulham have at least shown something in the final third in some of their recent games, but this Everton team are likely to be well organised and that can make things difficult for the home team. The overall goals scored at home is a decent number for Fulham, but 8 of their 17 League fixtures at Craven Cottage have ended with the home team failing to score two goals and that may be the outcome of this one too.
With Everton's own attacking issues, especially away from home, backing the under at a decent enough price is the play here.
