Liverpool
For the first time in thirty-five years, Liverpool Football Club will be able to lift the top flight title in front of a loud and passionate Anfield on Sunday afternoon. The previous Premier League success had been during the Covid-hit season and when fans were not allowed to enter Stadiums and so this is a big moment for all associated with the club.
Form since winning the title has perhaps unsurprisingly dropped off, but Liverpool have been comfortable Champions and the club are already working on signings to give Arne Slot the opportunity to really build a dynasty. The Reds finish up at Anfield on Sunday where they have a 14-3-1 record in the Premier League.
Liverpool were confirmed as Champions following the thumping win over Tottenham Hotspur, but they have lost 2 of 3 Premier League games since then. Both defeats were at Chelsea and Brighton and Liverpool's last home game saw them leading Arsenal 2-0 before being pegged back in a 2-2 draw. Liverpool had won 7 home Premier League games in a row before that draw with The Gunners.
Alexis Mac Allister has been ruled out, while the manager may choose to make more changes to the starting eleven as he did in the 3-2 loss at Brighton.
Crystal Palace
There was the feeling that Crystal Palace may suffer some sort of hangover after winning the FA Cup Final against Manchester City, but they rallied from falling behind to thump Wolves 4-2 at Selhurst Park on Saturday. Oliver Glasner's team will be playing Liverpool in the Community Shield in August and the manager and the squad will want to finish the season as strongly as possible with one fixture left.
It has been a hugely successful season for Crystal Palace after winning the FA Cup and there is still a chance for them to finish in the top half of the Premier League table with a victory on Sunday. The Eagles have a 7-6-5 away record in the top flight this season.
Crystal Palace are not only unbeaten in 7 games in all competitions, but they have won 4 of their last 5, including the last 3 in a row. They had failed to win any of 4 away Premier League games, but ended that run in a very comfortable 0-2 win at Tottenham Hotspur most recently.
Marc Guehi and Adam Wharton have been ruled out, while Nathaniel Clyne and Ben Chilwell are doubts with illness.
Head to Head
An early goal was enough for Liverpool to win 0-1 at Selhurst Park in October.
Liverpool had won 5 in a row at Anfield against Crystal Palace, but have since drawn one and been beaten in the other.
Prediction
The Premier League trophy lift will be a big moment for Liverpool and it may be at the end of a really good football match.
Both Liverpool and Crystal Palace will remember this season with real fondness and they will be opening the campaign at Wembley Stadium in August as Champions and Cup Winners respectively.
Freedom should allow both teams to express themselves and there is every reason to believe this could be a high-scoring final day at Anfield. Both teams have shown defensive vulnerabilities in recent games, but there has been little wrong with the attacking output and that should see plenty of chances created in the final third.
Recent games between Crystal Palace and Liverpool have tended to lean towards being the lower-scoring kinds of games- only 1 of the last 5 between the clubs have ended with more than two goals shared out. However, the situation here is that both can play without too much fear and the football seen over the last month suggests the attackers can get on top and ultimately provide one of the more entertaining fixtures to conclude this campaign.
