QPR
Neil Warnock is sure to set his side up to attack as he is of the philosophy that you can't sit back against the best teams as it will only be a matter of time before the better team will create chances and win the game. This approach worked well against Chelsea recently, but it is going to be a totally different ask against one of the form teams in Europe.
The change of owner at QPR brought a lot of positive feelings at Loftus Road and they have made a decent start to the Premier League knowing there are likely to be reinforcements brought in during the January transfer window. Rangers have picked up 12 points from their opening games this season but fell back down to 12th in the table following a heavy defeat at Tottenham. QPR are 1-3-1 at home this season, scoring 3 goals and conceding 6.
They have won 1 of their last 5 games in the League, that being the one over Chelsea when they were perhaps a little fortunate to get away with the 3 points. QPR are unbeaten in their last 4 games at Loftus Road since back to back losses here to start the season and they have only conceded 2 goals in those games.
Fitz Hall came off injured last week against Spurs and will likely be replaced by Danny Gabbidon. There are no new injury worries for Warnock to worry about other than the Hall one. Paddy Kenny will need to be in as inspired form as he was against Chelsea and Tottenham in recent games.
Manchester City
A lot of people were perhaps wondering if the Carlos Tevez affair would knock Manchester City off their early season form, but it seems to have inspired them to not just win games, but win games by large margins. A 0-3 win at Villarreal in the Champions League on Wednesday will have sent a few warnings to the rest of Europe that this team is here to stay.
Man City have opened up a 5 point lead in the Premier League courtesy of winning 9 of their first 10 League games and they have scored a League-high 36 goals in those games. The only points they have dropped so far have been away from home when Fulham came back from a 0-2 deficit to earn a draw, but City remain 4-1-0 in their away games, scoring 20 goals and conceding just 6. Arsenal and Manchester United are the only other teams to have reached double-digit away goals, with 11 and 10 respectively.
The team have won 7 games in a row in all competitions since the 2-0 defeat at Bayern Munich which was overshadowed by the dispute between Roberto Mancini and Carlos Tevez. Incredibly, City have scored 27 goals in those 7 games and have been more impressive away from home than at the Etihad Stadium.
Since that defeat in the Allianz Arena, City have won 4 consecutive away games, scoring 18 goals and conceding 3. They have now scored at least 2 goals in 7 of their 8 away games in all competitions.
Vincent Kompany is suspended having been sent off against Wolves last week, while David Silva is a doubt after being injured in Spain on Wednesday. Roberto Mancini expects to have Silva available, while the likes of Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko, Micah Richards and Gareth Barry will all be hoping for recalls to the starting XI.
Head to Head
QPR and Manchester City last met in the 2003/04 season in the Carling Cup, and it was City who came away from Loftus Road with a 0-3 victory.
Suffice to say that both sides have changed considerably in the last 8 years.
Prediction
It is really hard to look beyond Manchester City at the moment as they are playing some really inspired football, particularly away from home where they have more space to exploit teams who will not be allowed to sit back by their own supporters.
The team is full of goals at the moment and have been scoring heavily in their away games and I expect they will be able to take advantage of QPR who have looked a little suspect defensively in recent games, most telling of all in the game against Chelsea when they had a TWO man advantage.
With Neil Warnock likely to instruct his side to try and push back City by attacking, I think QPR could be rife to being picked off by the clever movement of the likes of Aguero, Silva and Nasri and it could be a long day in the office for the home side, especially if they go behind early.
I just find it hard to go against City in this current form and the hope is the international break will cool them down. Unfortunately for QPR, this game comes before the 2 week Premier League break and I can only bet Manchester City to win this game by a couple of goals.
I will take Manchester City - 1.25 on the Asian Handicap at a shorter price as that will at least return half of our stake if City only win by 1 goal.
