PHILADELPHIA EAGLES
Well now. Andy Reid has come out and dumped starter Kevin Kolb, saying Michael Vick will be the QB for this match, as well as the rest of the season, barring injury. There is a lot of talk about Reid not going about this the right way, but cut to the chase, it's the right decision.
Vick is a hungry hungry player, and a very bloody good one too. He has throw the ball, and run it too, for a game and a half and his 6 quarters have been a marked improvement on Kolb. An offence the likes of Philadelphia needs an extra mobile QB like Vick, and so the decision is a very good one. Vick has been out of the game for quite a while now, and I expect perhaps he will have his problems down the line with better teams. Not the Jags.
The Jacksonville Jaguars do not boast a great pass rush, with the secondary looking slack and slow. That is enough to have a player like Vick burn you through the air, but with Vicks movement on the ground, he makes it possible to free up LeSean McCoy to pound the ball, which he is doing to the tune of almost 7 yards per carry. He has also has 4 touchdowns in 2 games.
JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS
The Jacksonville players are now on a 1-5 streak in their last 6 games, and they've not been better ATS either. They have the worst support of any team in the NFL, which takes away the home field advantage here too.
On offence, the Jagss will rely on a ground attack, seeing as they aren't all that when throwing it. Maurice Jones Drew had a preseason injury to his knee, and it shows, as he is averaging just 3.7 yards per carry. He will go up against an improved Eagles defence that now has linebacker Stewart Bradley back in the side. The Eagles run defence looked iffy when allowing Detroit to gain yards on the ground, but I expect that to be a bit improved, unless big Maurice comes in and suddenly plays perfectly.
The defence will ultimately have to control Vick, because there is enough talent in this Eagles to go and put up very fast scores, going the length of the field in under 2 minutes. QB David Garrard threw 4 interceptions last week against San Diego, and I can't see them getting a win here if they continue that against an Eagles defence that can punish mistakes like that.
BETTING VERDICT
I'm wondering why the Jags got thumped last week and are still dogs of only 2.5. Perhaps it's because they are at home, or that Philly only got by Detroit by 3 points.
I just have a feeling the Eagles, led by Vick, are capable of putting up a lot of points. So I'll go with Philly.
