Augsburg finished 11th last season under coach Jens Thorup, their highest finish since 2015. However, they ended the season on the back of five straight defeats and lost their most important player this summer - Ermedin Demirovic. Demirovic had 15 goals and 9 goal assists last season but left for Vfb Stuttgart, so we will see how they will fare without him.

Among the new signings are Kevin Schlotterbeck from Vfl Bochum and Marius Wolf from Borussia Dortmund, who should be good additions.

Interestingly, Augsburg chose South Africa as their pre-season destination, where they recorded one win and one defeat. Back in Germany, they faced Leicester City, which they beat, and then lost to Olympique Marseille in their final preparation match.

Augsburg’s first competitive game was a success, with them beating Viktoria Berlin 1-4 in the DFB Cup last week. They were a goal down but still managed a comeback, with their new striker Samuel Essende impressing in that game.

Werder Bremen

Werder Bremen gained Bundesliga promotion in the 2021/22 season, and this will be the third season in a row under coach Ole Werner. It looks like they are slowly improving with him at the helm. First, they finished 13th, and last year, they were 9th, so perhaps they could challenge for higher spots this time.

Werder Bremen’s pre-season performances were mixed. They recorded two wins, two draws, and two losses.

They had a successful start in the DFB Cup, where they won 1-3 against Energie Cottbus. Their new signing, Keke Topp, scored a hat-trick in the match. The 20-year-old, who came from Schalke 04, is expected to have a significant role in the team this season.

Another notable signing of Werder Bremen is the midfielder Skelly Alvero from Lyon.

The Betting Verdict

None of the last six Bundesliga matches between the teams ended in a draw. Werder Bremen completed the double against Augsburg last season, with two clear victories - 2-0 at home and 0-3 away.

I am leaning more towards Werder Bremen in this match as I think they have a more versatile and better squad than Augsburg. Augsburg lost their best player, who will be challenging to replace so quickly.
