Bournemouth
Three Penalties in one game is a rare occurrence in any football match, but Bournemouth were able to take full advantage as they bounced back from a loss with a crushing win over Wolves last Saturday. Andoni Iraola perhaps does not receive the same kind of credit as some of the managers around him like Thomas Frank, but the Spaniard has done a fine job with Bournemouth and is expected for bigger and better things in the years ahead.
His team might be sitting in 13th place in the Premier League table, but Bournemouth have 18 points on the board which means they are only 5 short of those in the top four positions. A place in the Champions League may feel like a 'fairytale', but Bournemouth should perhaps be thinking about joining the likes of Brighton in earning an adventure in Europe. The Cherries have a 3-1-2 record at the Vitality Stadium and pushing that forward may give them the best chance of a top seven finish.
Bournemouth had lost tight, consecutive matches to Brentford and Brighton before returning to form with their 2-4 win at Wolves last weekend. They had won 3 Premier League games in a row at the Vitality Stadium until the narrow loss to Brighton, but the confidence should still be pretty high within the camp.
Lewis Cook and Antoine Semenyo are hoping to return this week, but the game comes too soon for Luis Sinisterra and Alex Scott.
Tottenham Hotspur
The fans booed Tottenham Hotspur from the field on Sunday after the 1-1 home draw with Fulham and Ange Postecoglou is a little frustrated with the lack of patience being shown by those in the stands. You can understand some of the disappointment of the supporters after Spurs failed to back up the big win at Manchester City, but Postecoglou will point out that the team remain on track to achieve the goals they have set out for themselves in August.
Dropping two points means Tottenham Hotspur begin this week in 7th place in the Premier League table, although they kick off last in this round of fixtures and the standings could look considerably different by Thursday evening. The side have a 2-1-3 away record in the Premier League this season.
Tottenham Hotspur may be unbeaten in 3 games in all competitions since the November international break, but the flip side of the coin is that they have won 1 of their last 5. They snapped a 3 away game losing run emphatically when beating Manchester City 0-4 at the Etihad Stadium a little under two weeks ago, but have drawn home games with Roma and Fulham since that result.
Cristian Romero, Archie Gray and Dominic Solanke are hoping to be available for selection on Thursday, and at worst should be ready for the big League game on Sunday. There is a considerable injury list at Tottenham Hotspur which was pointed out by Ange Postecoglou earlier in the week.
Head to Head
Tottenham Hotspur did the Premier League double over Bournemouth last season, which included a 0-2 win here.
Bournemouth have not won any of their last 3 home games against Spurs and have lost consecutive fixtures against them at the Vitality Stadium since returning to the top flight.
Prediction
The last game of this round of Premier League fixtures is played on the South Coast on Thursday and both Bournemouth and Tottenham Hotspur should bring the entertainment.
You do have to question some of the defensive work that these two teams have put on the field in recent weeks, but both Bournemouth and Spurs are more than capable of hurting the other.
With injuries at the back piling up, Tottenham Hotspur almost have to believe that attack is the best defence for them right now. There is no doubting the quality that the team have in the final third, but there is also an inconsistency about Ange Postecoglou's men that makes it very difficult to know what to expect.
Both away wins in the Premier League have come in Manchester and by emphatic margins, but Tottenham Hotspur have struggled in the other 4 fixtures played on their travels. While scoring seven in the two wins over Manchester United and Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur have managed just four in total in the other away League games and that puts a lot of pressure on the defence.
Cristian Romero could return this Thursday, but the first choice goalkeeper is out and Micky van de Ven is not quite ready to return. It has allowed teams to create some big chances against Tottenham Hotspur and Bournemouth are more than capable of doing the same.
The Cherries do have to overcome the mental obstacle of having a poor recent record against Tottenham Hotspur, but the team are in good form of their own. Defensively there have been some issues to address, but Bournemouth can create chances and had won 3 in a row at home before the 1-2 defeat to Brighton.
The layers are taking no chances with the goals angle in the match- the over 2.5 is very low and even backing four or more goals looks a short price.
You never know what to expect from this Tottenham Hotspur team from week to week, but it is also hard to ignore the slightly erratic away form when they have not been playing in Manchester. Before the win at the Etihad Stadium, Spurs had lost 3 away games in a row in all competitions and they look a vulnerable favourite here.
Bournemouth were beaten in their last fixture here, but prior to that they had beaten the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City in front of the home fans. Another high-scoring home victory could be the outcome of this one and backing Bournemouth with a start on the Asian Handicap may be the best approach to take in what is a game featuring two inconsistent teams.
