St.Pauli has not won in six straight Bundesliga games, losing four times. Last week, they drew 1-1 away against solid Wolfsburg, which was their sixth consecutive match ending with under 2.5 goals.

There are many illogical things in the Bundesliga this season. One of those is St.Pauli’s incredibly strong defense.

Despite sitting fourth from the bottom in the Bundesliga and flirting with relegation, St.Pauli is the third-best defensive team in Germany! Only Bayern Munich and Mainz have conceded fewer goals than St.Pauli (30 goals), and they are tied with the champions Bayer Leverkusen in that regard.

However, a strong defense alone is not enough to be a good side. St.Pauli’s attack is the weakest in Germany, scoring only 19 goals in 25 games this season.

Next week, St.Pauli will travel to face Bayern Munich, so this game is very important. They already beat TSG Hoffenheim 0-2 in their first duel this season, which may motivate them again to push for another win.

TSG Hoffenheim

TSG Hoffenheim remained unbeaten in their last four Bundesliga matches (two wins, two draws), although last week’s 1-1 draw against Heidenheim felt more like a defeat.

Still, TSG Hoffenheim has an effective nine-point advantage over the drop zone, which gives them good breathing space before the final stretch.

Similarly to St.Pauli, TSG Hoffenheim’s recent games were also low-scoring, with all their last three games ending with under 2.5 goals.

TSG Hoffenheim recently showed surprisingly good away performances, winning in three of their last four away games.

Calculations say that TSG Hoffenheim has to pick up nine points from their remaining nine games to be perfectly safe, and I am sure they will achieve that.

The Betting Verdict

Here we go again – two weeks in a row there has been no home win in the Bundesliga. Not even one. What are the chances of that happening for a third week in a row? Same as winning the Powerball Jackpot?

St.Pauli is realistically under higher pressure. They are only four points above the drop zone and winless in six, so they must at least beat their relegation rivals to keep their hopes alive.

TSG Hoffenheim is in a better position, unbeaten in four and relatively comfortable nine points above the drop zone. Even a draw would suit them, so perhaps they will be more careful and defensive-minded in this game.

It should be a tight game without many goals, and I would go with St.Pauli to win.
