FC Zurich strengthened their grip on a possible top six finish in the Swiss top flight over the weekend with a 2-1 win away from home at Grasshoppers which also became a fourth win in five games for Ricardo Moniz’s side.
With just four games remaining of the Swiss Super League regular season, this upcoming clash between 6th placed FC Zurich and their 7th placed visitors, Lausanne-Sport, could prove to be pivotal in the race for a spot in the Championship Round when the campaign splits into two divisions.
Recent previous wins against Yverdon Sport, Lugano and Luzern respectively have outweighed the disappointing 3-1 loss at home to Servette and although results at home have been a mixed bag, Zurich should still have too much quality for Lausanne-Sport here on Wednesday night.
Lausanne-Sport now find themselves five points adrift of their upcoming hosts and a place in the top six of the Swiss Super League table following a worrying and comprehensive 4-1 defeat at home to Luzern over the weekend, making it just two wins from their last 11 matches overall.
A previous 4-1 rout of Yverdon Sport on home soil at their Stade de la Tuilière together with a 2-0 win on the road at St Gallen have been Lausanne-Sport’s only highlights since the season resumed in mid-January, whilst also being handed five defeats in the process.
Defeats at the hands of St Gallen, Young Boys, Servette, Young Boys and Luzern suggest this upcoming trip to the Stadion Letzigrund to take on a rejuvenated FC Zurich outfit looks like being another tough evening at the office for the visitors.
