This game is live on TV
Bournemouth
Prior to the kickoff, Andoni Iraola and his Bournemouth team may have been pleased to leave Selhurst Park with a point, but the way the fixture played out means it will feel like two points lost. Playing against a team that have been conceding goals for fun and who had been reduced to ten men in first half stoppage time should have given Bournemouth the impetus needed to secure the win.
Ultimately a point was enough to move Bournemouth into 8th place in the Premier League table and they may still be on course for a place in European Football next season. They have also set a new club record for points earned in the top flight and Bournemouth can keep the pressure on those around them by improving the 7-3-6 record at the Vitality Stadium this weekend.
Bournemouth might have been looking forward to a really strong end to the season if they had produced better than a single win in 10 games in all competitions. They are unbeaten in 3 Premier League games ahead of this fixture, but 2 draws in that time have slowed momentum. Bournemouth had lost 4 home Premier League games in a row after the 5-0 win over Nottingham Forest, but snapped that run by beating Fulham last time out here.
Luis Sinisterra is hoping to be available for selection this weekend.
Manchester United
Another Premier League game finished without a goal and with another defeat placed on the table, but Manchester United are all in when it comes to the Europa League. Ruben Amorim still wants better from the League results, although the manager is well aware that the improvements he wants to make within the squad are attached to Europa League success too.
On Thursday Manchester United travel to Bilbao for what they hope is the first of two occasions in May, but there is still a motivation to finish as high as possible in the Premier League. Financially that will make a difference, while no one expected Manchester United to be 14th in the standings with five League games to play. The side have a 4-5-7 away record in the top flight this season.
Manchester United have not won any of their last 6 games in all competitions in normal time, but did beat Lyon 5-4 in Extra Time in an epic Europa League Quarter Final Second Leg. They have been stronger away from home when playing in that competition, but Manchester United have won 1 of 5 away Premier League games and lost 3 of those, including back to back defeats at Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United.
Matthijs de Ligt, Ayden Heaven, Toby Collyer, Amad and Joshua Zirkzee are expected to miss out through injury. Last Sunday Ruben Amorim did rotate his starting eleven and that could be the case again with one eye on the Europa League tie coming up.
Head to Head
For a second season in a row, Bournemouth left Old Trafford with all three points thanks to a 0-3 win back in December.
It has been more difficult at home and Bournemouth have beaten Manchester United once in their last 6 here, while suffering 4 losses.
Last season Bournemouth led twice in an eventual 2-2 draw.
Prediction
There is little doubt that Manchester United's season will be defined by how they finish in the Europa League, but that does not mean the manager is happy with the poor run in the Premier League.
Picking up a big result prior to the trip to Bilbao could provide a real boost for the players and they have had a decent record at the Vitality Stadium in recent years.
Playing Bournemouth at Old Trafford has proven to be much more difficult having suffered another 0-3 home defeat to this opponent in December. That result has contributed to Manchester United having lost more home games than away from home in the Premier League this season and that may be partly down to the fact that the team can look to defend in numbers on their travels and make things difficult for hosts.
However, Manchester United have lost 3 of their last 5 away Premier League games, including back to back losses.
Andoni Iraola's Bournemouth have to be encouraged by that even if their own form has hardly been that special in recent weeks. A single win in 10 games in all competitions has stunted momentum, although Bournemouth at least ended a run of 4 consecutive home Premier League defeats when holding on for a narrow 1-0 win over Fulham last time out here.
Motivation to finish in the top eight should be pushing Bournemouth forward and they may have too much if Manchester United are distracted by what is coming up.
The away team have enough quality to cause problems, but the pace and movement Bournemouth have in the final third should give The Cherries the edge. Nothing has been coming easy for Bournemouth of late, but they do create chances and can score at least twice on their way to picking up three points that mean a lot more to them than it does to Manchester United.
