A Sports Betting Preview by Auls

Paris Saint-Germain v Tottenham Hotspur
Football: UEFA Super Cup
Wednesday 13th August 2025 - Kick Off 8pm

Paris Saint-Germain

Winning domestic competitions will always raise a smile, but Paris Saint-Germain expect to dominate French Football with the amount of investment made into the club. The challenge has always been European Football and Luis Enrique and a relatively young Paris Saint-Germain squad brought home the biggest prize when crushing Inter Milan in the Champions League Final.

They almost picked up the Club World Cup too, although Paris Saint-Germain perhaps ran out of some gas in the Final against Chelsea having beaten Bayern Munich and Real Madrid previously. Despite that, the squad should be returning to competitive action with some confidence and Paris Saint-Germain will begin the Champions League as favourites to retain the competition, albeit with some big challengers involved in the competition.

Paris Saint-Germain were last in action a month ago in the United States, but they should be rested and ready to begin the season on Wednesday. The French top flight gets underway this weekend too. The side have won 10 of their last 12 games in all competitions.

Joao Neves is suspended for this fixture. Lucas Chevalier has been signed and is expected to replace Gianluigi Donnarumma as first choice goalkeeper, but the Italian may be asked to start this game.

Tottenham Hotspur

The last time Tottenham Hotspur played a competitive fixture, they ended up picking up silverware for the first time in seventeen years under the guidance of Ange Postecoglou. A poor domestic season still proved costly for the manager and so it is Thomas Frank who will be guiding Tottenham Hotspur forward as they bid to make it a 'London buses' situation- you wait for silverware to come along for so long and then suddenly two arrive at once.

This is still a big test for Tottenham Hotspur, but the fans will be looking forward to the season with a new manager and Champions League Football to come. However, there have been plenty of changes in this part of North London with veteran Heung-Min Son leaving the club and adapting to Thomas Frank's methods could take a bit of time.

Much like Paris Saint-Germain, Tottenham Hotspur may have one eye on the start of the Premier League season this weekend. Pre-season form has been mixed, but Tottenham Hotspur will head into this Super Cup fixture knowing they are unbeaten in 6 games in UEFA settings and have won 5 of those played.

Heung-Min Son has been sold, while James Maddison picked up a serious injury that will rule him out for much of the season. Both Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke are doubts for the opening Premier League game, while Spurs are still trying to bring in reinforcements before the close of the transfer window.

Head to Head

This is the first time these two clubs are meeting in a competitive fixture.

Prediction

Two different kinds of preparation will have been made for the UEFA Super Cup this season.

Paris Saint-Germain have been resting and recuperating after their efforts at the Club World Cup this summer, but they should be motivated and ready to go with the French League also kicking off this weekend.

On the other side, Tottenham Hotspur have been building up through friendly matches in the off-season under a new manager. Injuries were seen as a big factor in the poor domestic season last time around and Thomas Frank may be a little worried with some of the issues around his squad in August.

James Maddison feels like a big loss and it is up to others to step up, but it could be tough to contain this free-flowing Paris Saint-Germain team on Wednesday in Udinese.

One of the big tests for Thomas Frank will be improving the defensive shape of this Tottenham Hotspur team- we will get to see how far he has gotten along with that already.

Silverware should motivate the players too, but the edge here is with the Champions League Winners who should be refreshed mentally and physically after coming close to winning the Club World Cup. Last season Paris Saint-Germain dominated English opposition in the Champions League and, despite the defeat to Chelsea in the United States, they can get the better of another here.

Champions League Winners have dominated the UEFA Super Cup in recent years and the French club may just have enough about them to win this one with some relative comfort.
