An early basement battle in the Scottish Premiership will unfold on Sunday afternoon when bottom club Aberdeen play host to second from bottom visitors Falkirk when the two teams face each other at Pittodrie Stadium with the hosts having lost both of their opening two league games.

Early season defeats at the hands of Hearts and Celtic have produced a poor start to this new domestic top flight campaign for Jimmy Thelin’s side who collected silverware at the end of last season when they recorded a 2-1 win against Celtic in the final of the Scottish Cup.

Aberdeen did manage to bounce back from the opening two defeats in the Premiership by achieving a comprehensive 3-0 win away from home at Greenock Morton in this season’s Scottish League Cup so the hosts are capable of turning things around here.

Falkirk achieved a second successive promotion from the Championship at the end of last term as John McGlynn’s side are once again rubbing shoulders with the top flight this season but they too have yet to get going.

An impressive campaign in the group stage of this season’s Scottish League Cup saw The Bairns pick up wins against Brechin City, Cove Rangers (on penalties), Queen’s Park and Spartans on their way to progressing through to the knockout rounds.

However, a heavy 4-1 loss to Celtic in the League Cup preceded a 2-2 draw at home with Dundee United and a 3-1 loss away from home at Livingston in the Premiership, so the visitors also find themselves searching for their first league win of the season this Sunday.
