Brentford
The win over Aston Villa would have been a huge boost for new manager Keith Andrews and he may have been expecting more points when Brentford scored in the 77th minute to take the lead at the Stadium of Light. It was not to be when all was said and done and it will have been a bitter pill to swallow for Andrews, the team and the Brentford fans when conceding a very late winner.
The Bees have been tipped up as a 'dark horse' for relegation and will return from the international break in 15th place in the Premier League table having secured 3 points through the opening fixtures played. Home form feels especially important for the Brentford team this season and all of those points have been earned at the Gtech Community Stadium from the opener.
Brentford have won 2 of their last 6 games in all competitions, while they have suffered defeats in half of those fixtures. It is the home form that has been pushing Brentford ahead and the win over Aston Villa means they have won 3 of their last 4 Premier League games played at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Yoane Wissa has finally gotten his wish to leave Brentford, while the likes of Vitaly Janelt, Yunus Emre and Edmund-Paris Maghoma are doubts.
Chelsea
It may have been controversial, but Chelsea did find a way to secure three more points in a victory over West London rivals Fulham in the last Premier League game before the September international break. The Blues will face another of those West London rivals, this time away from home, and new signings like Alejandro Garnacho will be hoping to be involved to impress.
This is a young squad, but there are plenty of options for Enzo Maresca and he will be expected to have Chelsea surpass the solid achievements of the 2024/25 season. The Champions League will be an added distraction, but 7 early points on the board in the Premier League suggests this is a confident group of players.
Chelsea could only earn a draw in the first Premier League game after becoming World Champions, but they have beaten West Ham United and Fulham to earn momentum. They continue the run of London derbies to open this season when travelling to Brentford and Chelsea have won 3 of their last 4 away Premier League games.
Liam Delap picked up an injury against Fulham so it is expected to be Joao Pedro leading the line. Cole Palmer missed the last two Premier League fixtures, but is hoping to be involved having had a fortnight more to recover.
Head to Head
Chelsea took four points from Brentford in the League last season.
Chelsea are unbeaten in all 5 fixtures played at the Gtech Community Stadium after Brentford finally made it back to the top flight, but the last 3 have all ended in draws.
Two of those have been goalless draws, including here in April.
Prediction
There is a Saturday night evening game scheduled in the Premier League this weekend and it is a West London derby between Brentford and Chelsea.
An 8pm local time kick off should mean the fans are ready to create a very good atmosphere and Brentford will be hoping that they can thrive at the Gtech Community Stadium over the next several months.
The Bees have gotten the better of Aston Villa here already this season, but the defeats at Nottingham Forest and Sunderland have given some cause for concern. Losing Thomas Frank is an obvious blow, but the departures of Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa increases the pressure on those still representing Brentford, including new signing Dango Outtara and striker Thiago.
The latter missed the majority of last season with an injury, but has scored twice already in the 2025/26 campaign and feels very important.
Brentford will also look to exploit set pieces under new manager Keith Andrews and the atmosphere here should charge up the players after the disappointing way they were beaten at Sunderland two weeks ago.
Getting on the front foot feels important for Brentford who will have to be wary about what is coming the other way.
Cole Palmer's potential return would be a boost for Chelsea, but Joao Pedro has been key in the consecutive wins and there are plenty of players around the new striker that have been in good early form. Defensively there are some questions that may be answered in games coming up, but Chelsea are playing with some real confidence right now and they may find a way to break down the home team.
Recent results at the Gtech Community Stadium have been somewhat disappointing for Chelsea with 3 straight draws, but the losses in the attacking department for Brentford may just be a difference this time around.
Credit has to be given to Brentford for some of the chances they have been able to create, but this is another step upwards in level of opponent.
The early season form of Chelsea as an attacking threat cannot be ignored and one goal may be enough for the visiting team to pick up three important points.
