A Sports Betting Preview by Auls
Football: English Premier League
Saturday 20th September 2025 - Kick Off 3pm
Brighton
The performance at the Vitality Stadium was arguably the most disappointing of the season and Fabian Hurzeler and the fans at the Amex Stadium will be looking for a positive reaction. At the moment it feels like Brighton are perhaps underachieving, but things can turn around very quickly in the early stages of the new season.
The Seagulls have 4 points from the opening fixtures and they are 13th in the Premier League table, but they are back home this weekend where all of those points have been earned. Late goals have been a feature of both games at the Amex Stadium and Brighton have a 1-1-0 record here having scored 3 goals and conceded 2.
Brighton had won 2 in a row in all competitions before the 2-1 loss at South Coast rivals Bournemouth last Saturday. The side are unbeaten in 6 at home going back to last season and Brighton's late 2-1 win over Manchester City before the September international break means they have won half of those fixtures.
Mats Wieffer and Diego Gomez are expected to be involved. Maxim De Cuyper had to be withdrawn with an injury at Bournemouth, but is hoping to be fit enough to be in the squad.
Tottenham Hotspur
The new manager admitted he would enjoy the early experiences of participating in the Champions League for the first team in this kind of position, but would soon turn his attention to the fixture being played by Tottenham Hotspur. Thomas Frank could have spent a bit more time getting involved in the atmosphere after his team scored very early on in that win over Villarreal.
The rest of the match was perhaps tougher than it should have been, but Tottenham Hotspur will note the most important thing is earning the three points that were available. The side are also 3rd in the early Premier League table having picked up 9 points from a possible 12 and Spurs travel to the South Coast with a 2-0-0 record away from home having scored 5 goals and kept a couple of clean sheets previously.
Tottenham Hotspur have made a bright start to the season and the defensive clean sheets are gaining them some headlines, although Thomas Frank has spoken about needing a bit more balance going forward. They have found that in away wins at Manchester City and West Ham United under his watch.
Yves Bissouma could potentially be available to face his former club, while Dominic Solanke is hoping to return in the League Cup to build up some fitness having largely been absent over the first month of the season.
Head to Head
Brighton came from behind in both Premier League games against Tottenham Hotspur last season and they won both.
They have now won the last 2 home games against Spurs, although were 0-2 down at the Amex Stadium before fighting back to win 3-2 in October 2024.
Prediction
There are only two odds on favourites in the Premier League this weekend and plenty of difficult games to judge.
Home form has not been as important over the last couple of seasons, perhaps partly because of the introduction and significant use of VAR, but there is something of an early feeling of a shift on that trend.
One team that has earned more away points than they have at home are Tottenham Hotspur, but they are just one of two Premier League clubs that have won both opening fixtures on their travels. They have played well in the victories over Manchester City and West Ham United and Thomas Frank has had an early impact on the defensive shape that had been lacking under previous manager Ange Postecoglou.
That will make Tottenham Hotspur dangerous, although Frank has pointed out that a bit more consistency is going to be needed in the attacking third- finding that balance and how soon it can be implemented may really determine the direction this season takes for a team that have begun very well.
They are heading to the South Coast where Brighton will be hosting having beaten Manchester City here last time out to remain unbeaten. Only a late Fulham equaliser prevented Brighton from winning the home opener, but they did score late against Manchester City and 4 points from a possible 6 feels about right.
Fabian Hurzeler's men have looked very good at the Amex Stadium and it feels like they can bounce back from what was an overall disappointing return from the September international break. With a bit more luck they may have taken a point at Bournemouth, but Brighton should be all the better in front of the home fans.
Last season The Seagulls came from behind to beat Tottenham Hotspur in both Premier League games and they have also beaten them twice in a row at home. With a full week to prepare, you have to believe Brighton will have a slight edge in the match and they can edge to the three points at the end of another test.
Brighton had been creating pretty good chances before lacking something in the final third at Bournemouth, and they will feel they can give this Tottenham Hotspur rearguard some problems.
Clean sheets will have given Spurs confidence, but they have been on the right side of some tight margins and Brighton may be worth backing to edge the contest.
