Football: English Premier League
Saturday 4th October 2025 - Kick Off 3pm
Arsenal
Late goals secured a very important win for Arsenal last Sunday in the Premier League and Mikel Arteta's focus is to keep the momentum. On the other hand, fans will be arriving at the Emirate Stadium looking to push their team on for a victory in this London derby and the chance to leave for the local pubs knowing Arsenal are top of the Premier League table for at least a couple of hours.
Shifting the pressure onto rivals Liverpool with a victory is the expectation of the supporters, but the squad cannot think beyond the three points. No one can win the title in October, but dropping points in winnable fixtures will slow momentum and sap confidence and so Arsenal will be under some pressure to perform. The Gunners have a 2-1-0 record at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League where they have scored 9 goals and conceded 1.
Arsenal have extended the unbeaten run after beating Olympiacos here in the Champions League on Wednesday and they have also won 3 in a row in all competitions to give the team a boost in confidence. The side have now won 4 of their last 5 games in all competitions at the Emirates Stadium.
Gabriel picked up a knock during the week and there is a chance that the defender will be rotated out of the starting lineup with the upcoming October international break to give him time to recover. The squad that was available on Wednesday should be good to go again with the likes of Bukayo Saka and Eberechi Eze likely to come into the starting lineup.
West Ham United
After allowing him to take the pre-match press conference as planned on Friday, the West Ham United board were criticised for Sacking Graham Potter twenty-four hours later. Soon after that announcement, a second was released to state Nuno Espirito Santo had agreed to take over as manager and West Ham United earned a big point on Monday night at Everton.
This is the first full week that Nuno Espirito Santo has had to work with his new squad and his main task is to get West Ham United moving up the League standings. The Hammers are 19th in the Premier League table with 4 points on the board, but all have been earned away from the London Stadium as West Ham United look to improve the 1-1-1 away record.
West Ham United had lost consecutive games against Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace, both at the London Stadium, and it felt inevitable that Graham Potter would eventually be let go. The belief was that any change would take place during the October international break, but it was not to be and West Ham United have beaten Nottingham Forest and drawn at Everton in the last two away Premier League games played.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Jean-Clair Todibo are both hoping to return to the squad for this short trip on Saturday. Tomas Soucek completes his suspension and George Earthy has been ruled out for the month.
Head to Head
Both Arsenal and West Ham United beat the other away from home last season.
It was the second season in a row that West Ham United had not only won at the Emirates Stadium, but done so with a clean sheet.
Arsenal had won 8 in a row at home against The Hammers previously, but were beaten 0-2 in December 2023 and 0-1 in February 2025.
Prediction
It has been a big week for Arsenal Football Club and the oddsmakers have actually placed them as favourites to win the Premier League title after the fightback to beat Newcastle United at St James' Park.
None of that matters and the only focus should be on making sure they avoid yet another upset against West Ham United who will have been working with a new manager all week.
The Hammers have won at this ground in each of the last two seasons and without conceding a goal, while Nuno Espirito Santo will have taken encouragement from some of the attacking football produced by Olympiacos in the Champions League game here on Wednesday. The new manager will also have been encouraged by what he has to work with in the squad after the battling 1-1 draw at Everton, although Espirito Santo has to work on the set piece defence after West Ham United conceded yet another goal from that avenue on Monday.
Now they have to face an Arsenal team that loves to exploit those opportunities, but who showed a different cutting edge in the win over the Greek Champions.
Some of the criticism of the team is that they have not created a lot from open play, but that was not the case in the win in the Champions League and Arsenal really played well in the win at Newcastle United.
Arsenal have thumped Leeds United here in the Premier League and also beat Nottingham Forest in the first fixture the latter played after Sacking Nuno Espirito Santo.
Both wins have been built on clean sheets, but Arsenal have also scored eight goals in those victories and they should have enough to get back to winning ways when hosting this London rival.
The away team will cause problems on the counter attack, but Arsenal should have the firepower to come through with a victory by at least two goals.
