Preview
Late changes made by the Milwaukee Brewers had little impact on the team and they have taken a 2-0 lead in this Divisional Round Series.
Instead of Quinn Priester, the Brewers made a decision to have a bullpen approach to Game 2 and none of the pitchers heading to the mound had more than 3 Innings thrown. They even gave up a Home Run that dragged through three runs in the opening Inning, but Milwaukee have a real sense of purpose about them and erased that deficit at the bottom of the First Inning and eventually pulled through for another comfortable win.
Manager Pat Murphy has already stated that Priester will be opening Game 3 on the road and the Brewers will be looking to close the show on this Series against their National League Central rivals. He will be hoping that Quinn Priester can chew through some of the early Innings before handing things over to the bullpen, while Murphy has to be really excited from what he saw out of Jackson Chourio.
A hamstring issue meant Chourio had to be withdrawn from Game 1, but it turned out to be a good decision to get the batter rested. Jackson Chourio not only had 2 Hits in Game 2, but one of those was a Home Run that scored three runs and pushed the Milwaukee Brewers clear in a 7-3 win.
Everything is working really well for Milwaukee and they have been better than the Chicago Cubs all around.
Returning home for Game 3, the Cubs have to be hoping a change in ballpark can result in a change in fortune, but there will be more hope than belief. The batting lineup have simply not been very consistent and this does put pressure on the pitching unit to try and keep the Cubs competitive in games.
It is the turn of Jameson Taillon to do that on Wednesday and the starter did finish the regular season with a 4-1 record in six starts since returning from a layoff. Most importantly, Jameson Taillon had a 1.57 ERA in those starts, while he also held the San Diego Padres scoreless in 4 Innings thrown in the Wild Card Round.
In the last start against the Milwaukee Brewers, Jameson Taillon threw 6 Innings and gave up a single run and that was right here at Wrigley Field. However, the previous home start saw Taillon knocked around for five runs in 4 Innings against this team and you cannot ignore how well the Brewers are seeing the ball in this Series.
Prediction
The starting pitching match up looks to be narrowly in favour of the Chicago Cubs, but the batting lineup are not performing at the level of the Milwaukee Brewers.
It also dismisses how well Quinn Priester has been performing this season and the young pitcher has also found a way to get on top of the Cubs in the last couple of starts against them.
He can keep the Brewers in this one and there is more belief in the Milwaukee bullpen compared with the Cubs, which makes the road team an interesting pick at odds against to complete the sweep.
Prop betters may want to continue backing the hot bat of Jackson Chourio who has had two hits in both games in this Series and who has a very strong record against Jameson Taillon.
He also had decent batting numbers against the Cubs throughout the regular season and Jackson Chourio may end up with at least two bases again (2.00).
Doubling that up with Nico Hoerner to at least offer some resistance for the Chicago Cubs and pick up two bases brings up a 4.75 price at Bet365- the batter has a strong 4-10 record against Quinn Priester and has had three Hits in this Series already, including a Home Run.
Jackson Chourio is 5.50 for another Homer, while Nico Hoerner is 16.00 to have one of his own in this game, both big prices that could be worth small interests.
