This game is live on TV

Finland

No one can ever take away the Euro 2020 Finals from Finland's national football team, although the only disappointment is that the tournament was played at at time when the majority of fans would not have been able to travel. Getting back to a major tournament Finals has eluded Finland since then and the team are already chasing in their bid to at least earn a Play Off spot in this World Cup Qualifying Group.

The defeat in Poland in September has left Finland in 3rd place in this World Cup Qualifying Group and they are 3 points behind both the Poles and Netherlands. The top Seed have an extra game to play, and Finland have to visit the Netherlands, but the focus on Thursday is to make sure they are still in a position to take advantage of any slip-ups from the two nations above the Finns in this section.

Finland are playing the Netherlands in a few days time, but they have to turn their own form around with a single win in 5 games, while the team have lost 3 of their last 4. The side had been on a run of 4 straight competitive home losses, but Finland snapped that when beating Poland 2-1 here earlier in the Group.

Lithuania

The biggest ambition for Lithuania within this World Cup Qualifying Group has to be finishing above Malta and they are on course to do that, despite drawing both games with their rivals in the battle to avoid a basement finish. If the 2-3 home loss to Netherlands in September is anything to go by, Lithuania could be a potential spoiler within this section.

In the last Nations League, Lithuania were playing in League C but ended up pointless in the Group and so having 3 points from a possible 15 in this World Cup Qualifying Group has to be considered an improvement. They fought back from 0-2 down to pull level with Netherlands last month before the eventual 2-3 defeat, although that game was at home. The side play Poland after this game against Finland and those could be pivotal fixtures against this Lithuanian team.

Lithuania have not won any of their last 13 games, but they can take some encouragement from the fact that 3 of the last 5 have ended in draws. They have lost 5 of their last 6 away games with the one exception being a goalless draw at Malta earlier in this Qualifying Group.

Head to Head

Finland were leading 0-2 in Kaunas inside 17 minutes, but Lithuania fought back for a 2-2 draw.

The Finns have won all 3 home games against Lithuania, although the last of those was played in the Baltic Cup in 1993.

Prediction

Chasing down either Poland or Netherlands to earn a Play Off spot for the World Cup Finals is the challenge for Finland and they can ill-afford to drop points in this Qualifier.

Hosting should be enough of an advantage considering how Lithuania have struggled on their travels.

It has been a much tougher test for teams visiting Kaunas within this Group, but Lithuania have had a tough time containing hosts and they could find the same again against Finland.

The recent form produced by Finland has been erratic to say the least, but they have beaten Poland here in this World Cup Qualifying Group and the home team may have enough firepower to edge past Lithuania here.
