Preview
This was not how things were supposed to go for the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Championship Series and they will do well to have another shot to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers at home. That will only happen if they are able to win two of three games at Dodger Stadium in the next few days, but something will have to change drastically for a team that have not hit well at all in this Series.
All of the big shots have been coming from the bats of the Los Angeles Dodgers, but the real boost for the defending Champions is the play of the starting pitchers.
Blake Snell and Yoshinobu Yamamoto have combined to complete seventeen of the eighteen Innings thrown in the first two games. More impressive is the fact they have allowed a single run between them with the latter throwing a Complete Game, and that has meant the Brewers have not been able to see the Dodgers vulnerable bullpen.
In the one Inning when they did, the Brewers almost managed to steal a victory over Los Angeles in Game 1, but they were not really competitive in Game 2 and that has to be a concern.
Manager Pat Murphy has spoken about the belief he has in his players to bounce back, as they have all season, but Game 3 is a tough spot for the road team following those two home losses. For starters, teams that have lost the opening two home games of a best of seven Series have managed to progress on just 11% of occasions and it is not like the Brewers are facing a team that is perhaps surprised to be in the postion they are in.
All of the experience and success of the Los Angeles Dodgers makes it very hard to see how the Brewers can push this Series back home and Game 3 is a big moment for the Manager. He has yet to announce a starter and the likelihood is that Milwaukee will go with an opener, but will be looking at either Jose Quintana or Jacob Misiorowski as being the bulk performer on the day.
Rookie Jacob Misiorowski has thrown twice in the post-season this season and has given up a single run in 7 Innings against the Chicago Cubs. He would be pitching on four day rest, but Misiorowski will take some confidence from the fact he limited the Los Angeles Dodgers to a single run in 6 Innings thrown in the regular season.
The other option to get through the bulk of the game is much more experienced and Jose Quintana did have 3 Innings in the Divisional Round without giving up a run. However, he had ended the regular season with a 7.40 ERA in his last four starts for the Brewers.
He pitched twice against the Dodgers in the regular season and allowed five runs in 12 Innings thrown, although four of those were given up in this ballpark. Jose Quintana also pitched against the Dodgers for the New York Mets in the Playoffs last season, and he allowed five runs while being replaced in the 4th Inning.
There is some uncertainty with the approach that the Brewers will take and the reveal of the starter may not be made until Thursday morning. Even then, you have to expect Pat Murphy to keep his cards close to the chest when it comes to which of the two options will come out of the bullpen first.
Things are much clearer for the team with a 2-0 lead in the NLCS and the Los Angeles Dodgers will be looking for another strong outing from the starting pitcher. Last season the Dodgers won the World Series behind the bullpen, but the starters have been rolling in 2025 and Tyler Glasnow will take inspiration from what Blake Snell and Yoshinobu Yamamoto have been able to produce.
A solid 3.19 ERA in the regular season would have given Tyler Glasnow confidence and he has pitched twice in the Playoffs with both coming in the Divisional Round. Throwing over 7 Innings- a little over a single Inning was in a relief outing- Tyler Glasnow has yet to give up a run in the Playoffs and has only allowed a total of four Hits.
He saw the Milwaukee Brewers twice in the regular season and Tyler Glasnow has a hard luck 0-1 record considering he produced a 0.82 ERA in those outings. The Dodgers may have lost both games, but that was not down to Glasnow who allowed a single earned run in 11 Innings thrown.
Milwaukee had dominated the regular season, but things have been very different through the first two games of the NLCS.
Prediction
The Los Angeles Dodgers may not know exactly the approach that the Milwaukee Brewers are going to take in Game 3, but the likelihood is that they won't care whether it is Jose Quintana or Jacob Misiorowski going through the majority of Innings.
Instead the focus has to be on what they are doing having created a 2-0 lead in this Championship Series and they will be expecting another strong foundation being laid by the starting pitcher.
Tyler Glasnow has pitched well in the Playoffs and contained the Milwaukee Brewers in the regular season.
Considering the way this Dodgers batting lineup have been performing, Glasnow can expect a lot more support than he got in the two regular season games against this opponent.
Milwaukee's bats have gone cold at a bad time and they have not been able to get through enough pitches to force the Dodgers to turn to the bullpen early in any contest. They showed what could happen in Game 1 against a vulnerable relieving core, but Milwaukee will need more early runs to keep up with the Dodgers and that may be unlikely against Tyler Glasnow.
Series can change with a swing of the bat, but the Dodgers look very good right now and they can win this one with a relative level of comfort, much as they did in Game 2.
The decision to back the Dodgers batting lineup in the Prop market paid dividends in Game 2 with the bottom of the order piling up the Hits as suggested.
Freddie Freeman's late Hit ensured all of the names picked came through with at least one on the board and the 3.00 quotes paid out.
However, it was Max Muncy's Home Run shot that really piled up the positive returns with the 5.50 price a winner, as well as the RBI at 3.30.
Keeping faith with the Dodgers batters looks the play and this lineup has changed the narrative about Dodger Stadium.
Previously it was seen as a pitcher friendly ballpark, but Los Angeles saw the Home Runs pile up at home this season and there have been plenty more in the four Playoff games played here.
Shohei Ohtani continues to be priced aggressively, which again is not a big surprise considering he had 29 Home Runs in this ballpark in the regular season and two more in the post-season. He also has a Home Run from the arm of Jacob Misiorowski and Jose Quintana in limited Plate Appearances against both and the lead off will be dangerous, although Intentional Walks are in play.
At double the price, Andy Pages might be the better selection.
He didn't find a Hit against Misiorowski in three At-Bats in the regular season but is 4-8 against Jose Quintana. It also should be noted that Pages had the second most Home Runs for the Dodgers in this Stadium with 19 in the regular season and at 7.25 he is worthy of an interest in Game 3, although keep an eye on the starting lineup ahead of the start.
Max Muncy is slightly shorter than his Game 2 price to hit a Home Run and is someone who has had one from Jose Quintana in the past and also hit the fourth most Home Runs at Dodger Stadium this season. He has had his eye firmly in during the last two games and is worth backing again.
At a slightly lower price, backing Enrique Hernandez to continue his fine form at the plate and pick up at least two Bases is 2.90 with all those odds offered at Bet365.
