A Sports Betting Preview by Auls

West Ham United v Burnley
Football: English Premier League
Saturday 8th November 2025 - Kick Off 3pm

West Ham United

Nuno Espirito Santo did not hide his emotion as West Ham United scored a late goal to confirm the first three points under his guidance and just move back in touch with the teams above them in the Premier League standings. The victory over Newcastle United has to give the team confidence and West Ham United have an opportunity to build on that with another game at the London Stadium before the November international break.

The three points earned last Sunday has pushed The Hammers above Nottingham Forest into 18th place in the Premier League table and they are 3 points behind the team visiting East London this weekend. The London Stadium has been a tough place for West Ham United to perform with the fans openly revolting, but they are now 1-0-4 here in the Premier League after that victory over Newcastle United.

West Ham United had lost 3 Premier League games in a row and real concern had built up around East London about which direction the club has been travelling, but snapping that may just give everyone a boost. There is still big pressure on West Ham United who opened the season with 4 straight Premier League defeats at the London Stadium before coming from behind to win last time out.

The squad that was available last weekend remains intact and it may be a surprise if the manager opts to make any changes to the starting eleven.

Burnley

Everyone at Burnley Football Club will be aware that games against the 'Big Six' are not going to determine the outcome of this season, but that means Scott Parker has to be expecting a response when the team visit what looks like being a relegation rival. Last weekend Burnley were well beaten by Arsenal at Turf Moor, but that would have been an expected outcome before kick off.

The defeat leaves Burnley in 17th place in the Premier League table and there is little doubt that Scott Parker, the board and the fans would all sign off on that position in May if given to them now. They are 3 points clear of the relegation zone, and hosts West Ham United, and Burnley have a 1-0-4 away record to take with them on this long journey down to the capital.

Burnley had won consecutive Premier League games against Leeds United and Wolves before the loss to Arsenal and those 6 points gained have been key to dragging them out of the bottom three. They are still conceding at least two goals per game away from home, but the 2-3 win at Molineux feels like a huge result for Burnley and proves to the players that they can compete away from home.

There are no new injury concerns in the Burnley squad.

Head to Head

West Ham United have won 1 of their last 4 home games against Burnley, although the last 2 at the London Stadium have both ended in draws.

Two seasons ago, Burnley led 0-2 here at half time, but West Ham United managed to fight back for a 2-2 draw.

Prediction

You hate describing any fixture as a 'six pointer' in November, but Burnley and West Ham United fans have to believe there is a real significance attached to a game to be played ahead of the next international break.

It is West Ham United who will enter the game with some confidence after the 3-1 win over Newcastle United in what was arguably the best display of the season. That certainly applies to games played at the London Stadium and Nuno Espirito Santo may feel he has found something that could work for his team as he looks to get them closer to the teams outside of the relegation zone.

They played well last Sunday, but it should also be noted that Newcastle United were poor, and West Ham United have something to build upon.

The Burnley players should not be lacking confidence of their own, despite the 0-2 home defeat to Arsenal.

Scott Parker will know that many teams are going to find it hard to compete with The Gunners, but his Burnley team had beaten Leeds United and Wolves in consecutive Premier League games prior to that loss last weekend. Beating those teams shows Burnley they can get the better of those expected to be in and around the bottom third of the Premier League table in May and this is a club that have a decent record when visiting the London Stadium.

A problem for Burnley is that they have been very vulnerable away from home and have conceded at least twice in all 5 away Premier League games played this season. Even this West Ham United team will believe they can reach that mark, despite some inconsistent attacking performances, and the goals being conceded by Burnley does keep them under pressure.

Scoring three times at Molineux will give Burnley belief, and this is a team that have scored in their last 4 away Premier League games even when visiting Manchester United, Manchester City and Aston Villa. They have not been creating a lot of chances, but Burnley have been clinical when those have arrived and that makes them dangerous.

This is not an easy game to predict considering the inconsistency that both teams have displayed.

Confidence should be in a good place in both camps and the slight edge may have to be given to West Ham United back at home after the win over Newcastle United. They have a bit more quality in the final third, although nothing is going to be easy for them, and it may just see The Hammers end up edging to another three points ahead of the November international break when everyone will be feeling much happier with the League position.
