This game is live on TV
Crystal Palace
While watching the home team move into a commanding position within the latest Conference League fixture to get back on track in that competition, the Crystal Palace fans found time to mock rivals Brighton. The supporters had one eye on this fixture on Sunday and so did manager Oliver Glasner who was able to withdraw key players during the 3-1 win over AZ Alkmaar.
Any concerns that the additional fixture commitment would have a negative impact on this Crystal Palace squad have been eased through the opening three months of the 2025/26 season and there has to be a lot of excitement building in this part of South London. The Eagles are 9th in the Premier League table and improving the 2-3-0 record at Selhurst Park could see Crystal Palace challenging for a return to European Football through the League finish.
Crystal Palace had to work their way through a sticky patch last month when losing 3 of 4 fixtures played in all competitions, but they have won 3 in a row ahead of the M23 derby. The side have lost 1 of their last 15 games in all competitions at Selhurst Park and Crystal Palace will be chasing a third straight victory in front of the home fans on Sunday.
Cheick Doucoure and Eddie Nketiah could return after the November international break, but this game comes too soon. Ismaila Sarr had a 'slight' hamstring issue ahead of the game against AZ Alkmaar, but scored twice and was taken off relatively early in the second half.
Brighton
Like a number of Premier League clubs, Brighton are just looking for the consistency that would see them move very quickly up the standings. Fabian Hurzeler has been tasked with getting the club back into European competition and the 3-0 win over Leeds United last weekend will have given the squad a boost in confidence after recent setbacks.
They are now 10th in the Premier League table and Brighton have 15 points on the board which means only Arsenal have really gotten away from them. The Seagulls have a 1-1-3 away record in the top flight where they have scored 7 goals, but conceded 10.
Brighton had suffered consecutive defeats in all competitions before the win over Leeds United, although the side have only lost 1 of the last 6 Premier League games played. However, since beating ten man Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, Brighton have needed a late goal to secure a draw at Wolves and lost a Premier League game at Manchester United and a League Cup tie at Arsenal.
Kaoru Mitoma is a doubt, but Joel Veltman should be available. Jack Hinshelwood, James Milner and Brajan Gruda are expected to be back in two weeks time.
Head to Head
Crystal Palace did the Premier League double over Brighton last season.
They are now unbeaten in 6 at Selhurst Park against this rival, although the previous 5 had all ended 1-1 before the 2-1 win in April.
Prediction
It is always worth noting how teams perform when they are involved in European competition on Thursday and then playing in the Premier League on Sunday.
For a club like Crystal Palace this is a completely new experience.
They have played four previous Conference League games and followed up with a Premier League fixture and Crystal Palace have only won once. In each of the last two occasions they have been beaten, although it should be factored in that both defeats were away from home at Everton and Arsenal.
This time Crystal Palace have played at home on Thursday and they will remain here for the last Premier League game before the latest international break.
Facing a rival will give the fans motivation to make as much noise as possible and Oliver Glasner was able to get some rest for some of his important players in the 3-1 win over AZ Alkmaar. That will help and Crystal Palace have really been able to get forward and cause massive problems for visiting teams to Selhurst Park all season and the same is expected when Brighton arrive on Sunday.
The M23 derby may not have the same impact as some of the biggest derbies in English Football, but don't say that to Crystal Palace and Brighton fans.
Games between the clubs have been hugely competitive in recent years and Brighton will have plenty of confidence after the 3-0 win over Leeds United.
Inconsistency has been a problem though and Brighton have not defended nearly as well as they would like, which is going to offer encouragement to the hosts.
1-1 has been a popular scoreline when the clubs have met at Selhurst Park and landed 5 times in a row before Crystal Palace's 2-1 win earlier this calendar year. For all the positives around the club, Oliver Glasner will privately be a little frustrated with some of the inconsistency in the final third, especially in the Premier League, and that raises some doubts, as does the fact that Crystal Palace have had little time to prepare compared with Brighton.
However, Crystal Palace have been very positive at home and they are likely to have the majority of chances in this one.
Backing them on the Asian Handicap makes sense with half the stake returned in the event of a draw, but Crystal Palace may do just enough to edge into a lead and hold off a late rally from The Seagulls.

Crystal Palace 2-1 Brighton
