Football: English Premier League
Saturday 22nd November 2025 - Kick Off 3pm
Liverpool
As English Champions, it is not surprising that the majority of the Liverpool squad would have been out representing their national teams over the last fortnight. However, Arne Slot will have been working hard on trying to reverse the recent form that Liverpool have produced and looking for solutions to help his team find consistency in the coming weeks when the important fixtures are played every few days.
The disappointing defeat at the Etihad Stadium two weeks ago means Liverpool are 8th in the Premier League table and 8 points behind leaders Arsenal. None of the players will be conceding the title in November, but Liverpool need to find a run of positive form, and that begins this weekend when looking to improve the 4-0-1 record at Anfield in the top flight.
Liverpool's loss at Manchester City means they have suffered defeat in 7 of the last 10 games played in all competitions, although the manager will highlight 3 wins in the last 6. They have recovered from consecutive home defeats to Manchester United and Crystal Palace by beating Aston Villa and Real Madrid here, which will have given the Liverpool players a boost.
Alisson is expected to be available and to return as the first choice goalkeeper, but Jeremie Frimpong remains a doubt.
Nottingham Forest
Improving form shown by West Ham United under Nuno Espirito Santo will have put some pressure on Sean Dyche and Nottingham Forest, but they responded with a big result just before the November international break. This has ensured Nottingham Forest have remained in touch with the teams outside of the relegation zone ahead of a very busy run through to early January.
Three points were earned against Leeds United and that means 19th placed Nottingham Forest are just 3 points behind 14th placed Newcastle United. The Tricky Trees have a 0-2-3 away record in the top flight where they have scored just 2 goals, but conceded 9 times.
Nottingham Forest lost 4 games in a row in all competitions and Sacked Ange Postegolou, which came as no real surprise. The appointment of Sean Dyche has sparked a run of 1 loss in 5 games played and Nottingham Forest have won twice in that time. Both victories have been at the City Ground though and Nottingham Forest will be bidding to avoid a third straight away Premier League loss this weekend.
Douglas Luiz remains doubtful, but Nottingham Forest could have Oleksandr Zinchenko, Dilane Bakwa, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Chris Wood available for this fixture.
Head to Head
Liverpool may have won the Premier League title, but Nottingham Forest took four points from them last season, including being the only team to win at Anfield.
The Reds had won 6 in a row at Anfield against Nottingham Forest prior to that upset defeat in September 2024.
Prediction
The 2024/25 season will be looked at extremely fondly by both Liverpool and Nottingham Forest fans, but this campaign could not have begun in much more disappointing fashion for both clubs.
The Liverpool collapse has been much more surprising considering they had won their opening 7 games in all competitions.
Since then, they have suffered 7 losses in 10 games in all competitions and the performance in the 3-0 defeat at Manchester City would have really stung all associated with the club. Arne Slot will have had time to think about things during this November international break, which will help, but he will also need his players to show a lot more consistency and intensity than has been the case in recent weeks.
Liverpool are hosting this Premier League game and the positive for the manager is that the players have shown a lot more in fixtures at Anfield compared with some of the recent away performances.
Back to back wins over Aston Villa and Real Madrid behind very good performances shows this Liverpool team are still a huge test for any visiting team and they are deservedly favourites this weekend.
In saying that, Liverpool will have to play well to beat a Nottingham Forest team that have lost 1 of their 5 games played under new manager Sean Dyche and who will travel to Anfield knowing they were the only team to win a Premier League game at this ground last season.
However, this campaign has been a complete contrast to the last one when Nottingham Forest threatened to find a way into the Champions League for so long- now they are just hoping to drag themselves away from potentially playing in the Championship next August!
Beating Leeds United has dragged Nottingham Forest back in touch with the teams outside of the bottom three, but the team have yet to find their feet away from home. They have conceded far too many goals and Nottingham Forest are failing to find consistency in the final third away from the City Ground.
It will still feel like a work in progress under the new manager and that leaves Nottingham Forest vulnerable against a Liverpool team that will not have forgotten losing to them last season.
Nottingham Forest will have to score here to earn a result, but containing Liverpool at Anfield is still a huge test for any team. The chances being created by Liverpool makes them a big threat and the expectation is that the attacking players will find a way to secure a relatively comfortable win for the struggling Champions.
