Manchester United
Late goals have helped Manchester United salvage draws at the City Ground and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but there will be some frustration that the team needed those after taking the lead at both grounds. At least the unbeaten run has been extended and Ruben Amorim is now a year into the rebuild at Old Trafford with expectations that he will help his team kick on in a positive direction.
They come out of the international break in 7th place in the Premier League table, although those standings could look significantly different when Manchester United kick off on Monday evening. Home form was a big issue last season, but Manchester United have a 4-0-1 record at Old Trafford this time around and that means a large majority of the Premier League points have been earned here.
Manchester United are unbeaten in 5 Premier League games since the very poor 3-1 loss at Brentford, and they had won 3 in a row before the draws with Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur. Premier League leaders Arsenal won at Old Trafford on the opening weekend of the season, but Manchester United have won 4 in a row at home and have scored at least twice in all of those victories.
Harry Maguire, Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro are expected to be available, while Lisandro Martinez could be included in the match day squad after recovering from a long-term injury. Benjamin Sesko came off against Tottenham Hotspur and missed Slovenia's international commitments with the expectation he is going to be absent until the end of December.
Everton
After a frustrating draw at the Stadium of Light, David Moyes will have been much happier with all he saw in Everton's 2-0 home win over Fulham. The manager has not shied away from admitting he wants to bring European Football to the Hill Dickinson Stadium and that means Everton are looking to move much higher in the League standings over the next several weeks.
The Toffees are 13th in the Premier League table and they have 15 points on the board, which means being only 3 points behind 5th placed Tottenham Hotspur. They have a 1-1-3 away record where Everton have scored 5 goals and conceded 8.
Everton have been struggling for some consistency and they had not won any of 3 Premier League games and earned a single point from those matches before getting the better of struggling Fulham. The side had lost 3 away games in a row in all competitions, but Everton's draw at Sunderland ended that poor sequence of results.
Nathan Patterson could travel with the match day squad, but Jarrad Branthwaite continues to miss time and is expected back in the New Year.
Head to Head
Last season Manchester United took four points from Everton, which included a 4-0 win at Old Trafford in Ruben Amorim's first home League game in charge.
Manchester United have beaten Everton 4 times in a row at Old Trafford in all competitions.
Prediction
The last game of the Premier League weekend takes place on Monday evening and Manchester United will be looking to get back to winning ways after the November international break.
Being unbeaten in 5 League games is a positive, even if Manchester United will have some regret about the way they dropped points in consecutive games at Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur.
Both times they were leading 0-1, but conceded two goals in quick succession before needing to find a late equaliser.
Those defensive lapses continue to be a problem for Manchester United and it was the same situation in a 4-2 home win over Brighton when a 3-0 lead became 3-2 with minutes remaining before another Bryan Mbeumo goal secured the victory.
The former Brentford player has been a huge factor in the early season performances of Manchester United, although he is set to depart for the African Cup of Nations next month.
For now he remains and there has been a confidence about the Manchester United home performances that cannot be ignored- yes, they have had lapses of concentration and made things more awkward than they should have been, but Manchester United have also scored plenty of goals at Old Trafford and they can have too much for an Everton team who have been inconsistent in recent weeks.
David Moyes will set his team up to offer a real threat going forward and set pieces is an avenue towards success.
Everton have given Liverpool and Manchester City something to think about in recent away games, but the problem remains scoring enough goals, while the side are not nearly as defensively sound as the manager would expect. Losing Jarrad Branthwaite to an injury has not helped matters at all and Manchester United can hurt Everton here, even without Benjamin Sesko to lead the line.
In recent years, Manchester United have had too much quality for Everton and that may be the same again, even if the latter are able to play a part in the fixture.
The defensive numbers suggest Manchester United will have enough chances to win this one in a relatively high-scoring fixture and they can be backed to do that and can grow the positive vibes around the club ahead of some 'kinder' looking fixtures.
