Europa League
2025-11-27 - Go Ahead Eagles vs VfB Stuttgart
A Sports Betting Preview by Niko
Football; UEFA Europa League: 05th Round
De Adelaarshorst – Deventer
Thursday, 27th November 2025 - kickoff 21:00 CET
Go Ahead Eagles
Go Ahead Eagles may not be a European heavyweight, but this season they have shown they can be dangerous, especially at home. Winning the KNVB Cup last season gave them a real shot at the continental stage for 2025/26.
Under coach Melvin Boel, they are organised and pragmatic. At De Adelaarshorst, they don’t always dominate the ball, but they defend well and look to strike quickly. Their home ground still plays to their strengths - it’s a compact, energetic environment, and they’ve often turned in their better performances there.
In Eredivisie this season, they’ve been a bit up and down - not making a serious top-six push, but also not completely off the pace. They have lost three of their last five league games, so their form is not good at the moment.
Last weekend, they suffered a 4-2 defeat to Heracles Almelo, dropping to the bottom half of the table.
Their squad isn’t stacked with stars, but they have solid role-players: Milan Smit has contributed four goals as their top scorer, while defenders like Joris Kramer help them stay difficult to break down.
I expect Go Ahead Eagles to come into this match very motivated. Beating or at least giving VfB Stuttgart a real fight would be a major boost, and at home, they are very capable of doing just that.
VfB Stuttgart
VfB Stuttgart, on paper, is the stronger team here. Their evolution under coach Sebastian Hoeness is amazing. They are no longer just a mid-table Bundesliga side, but one that can compete on multiple fronts.
They play with ambition - possession, pressing, and decent creativity in attack, and they don’t shy away from using wide areas and crosses.
Some of their key players have carried them. Deniz Undav remains a real threat up front, while Tiago Tómas and Bilal El Khannouss have added depth and fresh energy this season.
In midfield, guys like Chema Andrés (once of Real Madrid Castilla) are quietly doing the dirty work: breaking play, recycling possession, and keeping VfB Stuttgart balanced.
That said, VfB Stuttgart’s busy schedule, juggling Bundesliga, Europa League, and cup matches, takes a toll. Even recently, their coach admitted the squad is “mentally at its limit” after a string of intense games.
Still, VfB Stuttgart are winners in four of their last six games, drawing against Borussia Dortmund away last weekend.
And while they are good on the ball, European away matches remain tricky if the opponent sits deep.
The Betting Verdict
I’m leaning toward VfB Stuttgart, but not in a comfortable, runaway kind of way. They are the better team, they move the ball with more purpose, and they usually find a breakthrough against underdogs.
But Go Ahead Eagles at home aren’t easy at all. They play with energy, squeeze space, and always seem to create one big moment in these European nights. They won two of their four European games, so they should not be underestimated.
So I’m expecting VfB Stuttgart to control most of the game, Go Ahead Eagles to punch back when they can, and the game to stay competitive rather than wide open.
For me, this feels like a narrow away win, something like 1-2, with both sides getting chances along the way.
