Tottenham Hotspur
After being completely outclassed in the North London derby, Thomas Frank and his Tottenham Hotspur players were heavily criticised. The approach of the manager and the lack of intensity produced by those on the pitch contributed to the frustrations in the stands, although the travelling Tottenham Hotspur support will have been much more pleased with the attacking intent shown at Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.
The side return to Premier League action this week and there are three League games to play in the space of eight days so the pressure is on the team to produce big results. They begin this weekend in 9th place in the Premier League table, but Spurs are only 5 points behind Chelsea in 2nd place and there are plenty of points to fight for over the coming weeks and months. Home form has been a massive letdown for Tottenham Hotspur who have a 1-2-3 record here in the Premier League, which is the second worst home record in the top flight through the opening months of the campaign.
Tottenham Hotspur may have offered more in the defeat at Paris Saint-Germain, but that does mean they have won 1 of the last 6 games in all competitions and been beaten 4 times in that run. They did earn a 2-2 draw with Manchester United in the last home fixture played, but that has extended Tottenham Hotspur's poor home form to a single win in 5 games here in all competitions.
Cristian Romero is suspended, while the likes of Ben Davies and Dominic Solanke are slowly edging back into contention.
Fulham
The November international break gave the Fulham board a chance to assess how the opening of the season has been going and some suggested that they are putting the pressure on Marco Silva to extend his contract as manager of the club. The current contract runs out at the end of the season, but Fulham's poor form had meant there were some discussions about whether a change in the manager's office would make sense before Christmas.
Marco Silva himself has made it clear that he wants to remain in charge at Craven Cottage, at least until the end of the season, and the win over Sunderland has pushed Fulham up into 14th place in the Premier League table. There are still only 3 points between Fulham and the relegation zone, while they will be making the relatively short journey across London with a 0-1-5 away record.
Fulham have lost 1 of the last 4 games in all competitions and they have earned important home wins over Wolves and Sunderland in the Premier League during that time. Since scoring a late goal to earn a 1-1 draw at Brighton, Fulham have lost 5 away Premier League games in succession and conceded at least twice in each of those defeats.
Sasa Lukic is back from a suspension, while Antonee Robinson is closing in on a return from injury.
Head to Head
Fulham took four points from Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League last season.
The game in North London ended 1-1 and Tottenham Hotspur are now unbeaten in 6 at home against Fulham, while winning 4 of those matches.
Prediction
Ever since Thomas Frank was appointed manager of Tottenham Hotspur, the Dane has insisted that he needs time to find the balance that will make the fans happy with the football being produced.
Injuries to some key attacking players means Tottenham Hotspur have lacked consistency in the final third, especially with Frank choosing to make a number of changes in every game to keep players as fresh as possible.
This has shown up in some of the attacking numbers in recent big rivalry games- Tottenham Hotspur created next to nothing against Chelsea and Arsenal and were well beaten in both games.
However, the side showed something in the battling 5-3 defeat at Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
Thomas Frank will not have been happy with the defending, but Tottenham Hotspur caused the home team a lot of problems and they will be looking to take that into this latest London derby.
Lacking balance between attack and defence has been most evident in home Premier League games as Tottenham Hotspur have produced the second poorest record in front of their own fans in the top flight. A concern has to be that Tottenham Hotspur have not exactly been faced with a hugely taxing home schedule and so there is some pressure to find the right tactics on Saturday night.
While Tottenham Hotspur were playing in the French capital, Fulham would have been at home preparing for this fixture.
Marco Silva's men scored a late winner to beat Sunderland and pick up three priceless points last weekend, but Fulham have not been nearly as effective away from Craven Cottage.
Goals are being conceded at an alarming rate on their travels and Fulham have not been nearly as strong enough in the final third to make up for that.
They have not enjoyed too many recent visits to Tottenham Hotspur and it may be the home team who edge to the three points in this fixture between two clubs struggling at home/away respectively.
