Bournemouth
Recent form has been patchy to say the least and Andoni Iraola and his Bournemouth team would have made the long journey back home from Sunderland with more frustration building. An early breakthrough had seen Bournemouth move into a 0-2 lead at the Stadium of Light, but they could not contain the home team in an eventual 3-2 defeat, albeit one that was perhaps harsh on the visitors.
The results over the last few weeks have contributed to Bournemouth sliding back down to 11th in the Premier League table, although this is still a Division in which things can look very differently in the space of a few days. The Cherries will be happy to be back at the Vitality Stadium where they have a 4-2-0 record in the Premier League this season and where Bournemouth have scored 10 goals and conceded 4.
Bournemouth played 4 Premier League games in November and they earned a single point from those after the 3-2 defeat to Sunderland to end the month. It should be noted that Bournemouth have played the majority of those November games away from home and the sole fixture in which they avoided a defeat was played at the Vitality Stadium against West Ham United. Bournemouth fought back from 0-2 down to earn a 2-2 draw with The Hammers to remain unbeaten at home in the Premier League, although that draw prevented Bournemouth from winning a third game in a row here.
Lewis Cook was sent off for a foolish decision made in injury time- he elbowed Noah Sadiki, which in the era of VAR is something that players will not get away with. Both Marcos Senesi and David Brooks are also serving a suspension, while Ryan Christie and Ben Gannon-Doak are injured.
Everton
After showing so much resiliency with ten men in the 0-1 win at Old Trafford last week, David Moyes will have been horrified by the performance of his Everton team in the 1-4 home loss to Newcastle United this past weekend. They conceded inside the first minute and Everton were not nearly as competitive as the manager would have expected, and those frustrations were clear to see on the day.
That defeat along with the other results produced over the weekend means Everton have slipped to 14th in the Premier League table, although this is a club looking upwards rather than being concerned about being dragged back into a relegation battle. They have a 2-1-3 away record in the Premier League and Everton have scored 6 goals and conceded 8 in those matches played.
Everton had won back to back Premier League games either side of the November international break and had kept clean sheets in those victories over Fulham and Manchester United, which made the capitulation against Newcastle United all the more surprising. However, prior to the win at Old Trafford, Everton had not won any of 4 away games in all competitions and had lost 3 in a row before a draw at Sunderland.
Idrissa Gueye continues to serve a suspension and both Nathan Patterson and Seamus Coleman are expected to miss out.
Head to Head
Bournemouth won both Premier League games against Everton and also beat them in the FA Cup last season.
That makes it 4 wins in a row for Bournemouth over this opponent.
The recent home record against Everton has been impressive and Bournemouth have won 5 in a row at home against them in all competitions.
Prediction
A promise has been made by the Premier League to all of the clubs in the Division that the traditional festive period will be scheduled with plenty of rest in mind for the players.
However, it cannot be ignored that this is the start of a busy end to the calendar year and into early January and that will mean squads are going to be important.
Andoni Iraola will need to freshen things up on Tuesday with his Bournemouth team seeing three players pick up cards on Saturday which have resulted in suspensions.
Those suspensions come at a tough time considering Bournemouth's poor form through November, although the manager may point out that his team have been on the wrong end of some fine margins. They were leading 0-2 at Sunderland on Saturday and still made the long journey back down to the South Coast without a positive result, but Bournemouth should enjoy being back at the Vitality Stadium.
Last time out it was Bournemouth who were trailing 0-2 at home, but they were able to earn a 2-2 draw with West Ham United having created a lot of quality chances in that fixture.
The manager will believe his Bournemouth team can cover for defensive suspensions by getting on the front foot, although Iraola will have to expect a big reaction from Everton.
David Moyes will have been furious with his players for the lack of intensity and the mistakes that led to a heavy home loss to Newcastle United on Saturday. He will be demanding a much more resilient performance like the one that Everton produced to earn a win at Old Trafford last week, although The Toffees have been more vulnerable away from their new home on the banks of the Mersey.
Everton have been lacking a bit of composure in the final third in recent games and that may show up here.
They have not exactly enjoyed recent visits to the Vitality Stadium anyway and Everton are looking to avoid a sixth straight defeat at this ground.
Conditions are tough in December in the United Kingdom and it is expected to be wet and cold on Tuesday evening- that will be a test for the players, but Bournemouth should be more comfortable being at home and they may make odds against quotes for a victory look far too big.
