Fulham
Two goals inside the first six minutes saw Fulham take advantage of an uncertain Tottenham Hotspur, although they were hanging on for the three points at the end of the fixture. They were considerable underdogs in that victory on Saturday night and Marco Silva will be asking for another big effort from his Fulham players as they bid to upset the odds again.
There is no doubting the importance of the three points earned in North London as it means Fulham are 6 points clear of the relegation zone, despite being 15th in the Premier League table. It was also important to win away from home and back up the strong results being produced at Craven Cottage where Fulham have a 4-1-1 record.
Fulham have not only been beaten once in the last 5 games played in all competitions, but they have won 3 of the last 4 Premier League games to climb away from immediate danger. Since fighting back for a 1-1 draw with Manchester United, Fulham have won 6 of 7 games played at Craven Cottage in all competitions with the exception being a 0-1 defeat to Arsenal.
Antonee Robinson and Rodrigo Muniz are both expected to miss out.
Manchester City
Another team that took a 2-0 lead relatively early in the latest round of Premier League fixtures was Manchester City, although they needed a second goal from Phil Foden in injury time to edge past Leeds United 3-2 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday. After a tough week, it was important for Manchester City to get back to winning ways and just regain some of the recent lost momentum.
Those points earned in the win over Leeds United has pushed Manchester City back up into 2nd place in the Premier League table and they are now 5 points behind leaders Arsenal. That gap may have been much closer if Manchester City had a better away record than the current 2-1-3 record produced on their travels in the top flight.
Manchester City returned from the November international break by losing matches against Newcastle United and Bayer Leverkusen before the narrow victory over Leeds United. The defeat at St James' Park means Manchester City have lost the last 2 away Premier League games played.
Rodri and Mateo Kovacic are expected to miss out, while the manager may choose to freshen his team up a little bit as a hectic six weeks begins.
Head to Head
Since returning to the top Division in English Football, Fulham have played and lost all 6 matches against Manchester City in the Premier League.
Manchester City have won 7 in a row at Craven Cottage.
Prediction
Both of these teams were leading by two goals on Saturday, but it may be a source of frustration that neither Fulham nor Manchester City were able to win those fixtures without being pushed as hard as they were.
Points on the board will give the two squads plenty of confidence and this is going to be a challenging fixture for Manchester City, even if they have dominated Fulham in recent years.
They are the closest challengers to Premier League leaders Arsenal and Pep Guardiola will be very keen to see his team move to within 2 points of The Gunners by the end of this fixture. The manager should be pretty comfortable with the approach that Fulham will take into this game, although Manchester City's lack of recent away Premier League goals has to be a concern.
Erling Haaland has not scored in any of the 3 games played since the November international break and Manchester City have not had too many players stepping up to contribute. This makes Phil Foden's goals important in the win over Leeds United and Pep Guardiola will be hoping others can begin to chip in and not make the team over-reliant on Haaland.
Marco Silva and his Fulham team have been very good at home this season, which makes them a real threat, although they were well beaten by Arsenal. The scoreline does not reflect the dominance of Arsenal in that fixture and Manchester City have been creating enough chances to hurt Fulham in this one.
Of course the home team are going to feel they offer plenty of threat of their own and the overall home record this season means Fulham deserve a lot of respect.
They can play a part in this game, but Manchester City have matched up well with Marco Silva's Fulham and the away team's squad depth could make the difference when all is said and done on Tuesday evening.
