Arsenal

Results will always be analysed weeks and months after the event, but it is a very difficult to imagine a situation where a point at Stamford Bridge will be seen as a 'bad result' as far as Arsenal fans are concerned. The only letdown on Sunday is that Mikel Arteta's team were not able to take advantage of Chelsea being reduced to ten men in the first half, but it keeps Arsenal in a good position in the Premier League as we move into a busy December.

The lead at the top of the Premier League table has been cut to 5 points, but that still feels like a solid advantage for Arsenal who are playing at home in this round of fixtures. They bring in a 5-1-0 record from Premier League games played at the Emirates Stadium this season and Arsenal have scored 16 goals and conceded just twice in those matches.

Arsenal have maintained the unbeaten run after another away draw in the Premier League, but that also means dropped points in 2 of the last 3 top flight fixtures to offer encouragement to those looking to push their way into a title battle. It has been a different story at home though and Arsenal have won 7 in a row here in all competitions.

William Saliba suffered a knock in training in the final sessions before the game at Chelsea and he is a doubt for this one, as is Gabriel. Leandro Trossard and Kai Havertz are also doubtful, although Mikel Arteta did have some key attacking players return on Sunday. Rotation may be expected with Arsenal back in action in the early Saturday kick off this weekend.

Brentford

Late goals may have been needed, but Keith Andrews has to be so proud of how his Brentford team have continued to perform and pre-season fears about a season where they may need to battle to avoid relegation look wide of the mark. It has been the form at home in West London where Brentford have really impressed, but they make a relatively short journey twice to North London in the next few days and Brentford may feel they have nothing to lose.

The Bees have moved up into 10th place in the Premier League table and they are 8 points clear of the relegation zone, while also being much closer to the European places in the Division. Earning one of those still feels like it could be a step too far unless Brentford can start improving the 1-0-5 away record.

Brentford continue to be a side that wins at home, but loses on their travels and that is the next aspect that Keith Andrews will be looking to improve. They have won at West Ham United at the end of October in the Premier League and followed up with a victory at Grimsby Town in the League Cup Fourth Round, but Brentford have since been beaten in away League games at Crystal Palace and Brighton.

Reiss Nelson cannot be involved as he is on loan at Brentford from Arsenal, while Igor Thiago picked up a late knock after scoring two goals on Saturday and may not be risked.

Head to Head

Arsenal took four points from Brentford from the two Premier League games played last season, but it was the game at the Emirates Stadium that finished in a draw.

Since Brentford returned to the top flight, the 4 games at the Emirates Stadium have ended 2-1 to Arsenal on two occasions and 1-1 in the other two fixtures.

Prediction

The games will be coming thick and fast for Arsenal during this festive period thanks to be involved in the Champions League and League Cup Quarter Final and that means it is a month when changes have to be expected to the starting lineup.

Mikel Arteta's defensive options have been stretched after William Saliba joined centre half team-mate Gabriel on the sidelines, but several key attackers are back in the match day squad.

After playing Tottenham Hotspur, Bayern Munich and Chelsea and with Aston Villa to come, Arsenal fans may overlook this fixture.

However, it is imperative that The Gunners focus and avoid offering out more encouragement to the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea in the title race.

Arsenal have been very good at home and they will certainly feel they can contain Brentford and especially if the away team are without leading scorer Igor Thiago. We have yet to hear from Keith Andrews about his availability, but Thiago did pick up a knock on Saturday in the win over Burnley and Brentford are also playing several important games this month, which may see the manager choose not to risk him.

Keith Andrews will know his team have been a little Jekyll and Hyde depending on whether they have played at home or away- he will need to change that if Brentford are going to push into the European places, although Andrews deserves credit for the way his team have performed through the first four months of the season.

In recent years, Brentford have certainly given Arsenal plenty to think about, and that should mean Mikel Arteta and his players have respect for the visiting team.

This should increase the focus, but Arsenal are likely going to make a few changes, which could leave them a little out of sync. They have never found things easy against Brentford anyway, and the team have just struggled for clean sheets in the three games that have been played without Gabriel.

Mikel Arteta will want his team to just make sure they are more defensively sound in a fixture like this one, which could become potentially awkward, and the defensive numbers have remained pretty good even with Gabriel sitting out. William Saliba potentially missing this one has helped with the odds on Arsenal winning with a clean sheet, but that feels like a likely outcome if Igor Thiago is missing and covers the potential for the home team doing just enough and winning 1-0, which they would take right now.
