Wolves
There are 25 Premier League games left, which means 75 points are still on the board, but Rob Edwards and his new Wolves team need to find some positive momentum. Not only are they the only team in the top flight without a League win, but Wolves have scored just 7 goals all season and the 11 losses are at least two more than any other side.
Losing 1-0 at Villa Park on Sunday will only have underlined the negative statements around this Wolves team, who are bottom of the Premier League table and 9 points from safety. The side have a 0-1-5 record at Molineux in the top flight and Wolves have scored 6 goals and conceded 16 in those matches.
Wolves have suffered 7 defeats in a row in all competitions and they have lost both Premier League games played under Rob Edwards without scoring a goal. They have lost 3 in a row at Molineux in all competitions since Wolves conceded very late in the 1-1 draw with Brighton.
Matt Doherty is a doubt, while the new manager may choose to make some changes in order to earn a positive reaction from his team.
Nottingham Forest
The performances under Sean Dyche have been hugely encouraging, but Sunday proved to be a reminder to all associated with Nottingham Forest that there is still plenty of hard work to do if they are to avoid relegation. They were well beaten by Brighton at the City Ground, but the four teams below Nottingham Forest all lost this weekend, which is the only positive for Sean Dyche and the fans to hold onto.
The Tricky Trees are 16th in the Premier League table and just 2 points clear of 19th placed Burnley, but this is a midweek fixture that represents a good opportunity for Nottingham Forest to move further clear of the relegation zone. It will mean improving the 1-2-3 away record in the top flight where Nottingham Forest have scored 5 goals and conceded 9.
Nottingham Forest had been unbeaten in 5 games in all competitions and they had won 3 in a row before the disappointing 0-2 defeat to Brighton. The side had won just 1 of the previous 10 away games in all competitions, but Nottingham Forest doubled that tally with an emphatic 0-3 win at Anfield in the last away Premier League fixture played.
Morgan Gibbs-White played 85 minutes on Sunday, but there is a slight concern about an injury that he is playing through.
Head to Head
Nottingham Forest took four points from Wolves last season and they majority were earned from a 0-3 win at Molineux.
Wolves had been unbeaten in the previous 2 home games against this rival before that thumping loss back in January.
Prediction
Both of these struggling Premier League clubs have made managerial changes- two in the case of Nottingham Forest- but there has been little change in the fortunes for the home team.
At least Nottingham Forest can feel like the second new appointment this season has begun to turn the form around.
Sean Dyche might not be the 'big name' that some clubs chase, but Nottingham Forest felt he was a good fit having previously played for the club and with a style that should get the best out of the current squad.
Prior to the defeat against Brighton, Nottingham Forest looked to have the momentum behind them that had seem them climb out of the bottom three in the Premier League and begin to move up the Europa League standings too. The loss on Sunday might actually benefit Nottingham Forest in the long-term with the squad likely to have been served a big reminder that they cannot allow recent standards to dip and the side do head into this derby knowing they have kept clean sheets in the last 2 away games played in all competitions.
Next up is a match against a struggling Wolves team who have lost both games under new manager Rob Edwards and who have failed to score in those defeats to Crystal Palace and Aston Villa.
The only positive is that Wolves have been a little more resilient in the chances being given up and they did create some decent chances against Crystal Palace at Molineux. Rob Edwards will still be trying to work out how to get the right balance between attack and defence in his new role and the lack of time on the training ground may make things more challenging for him as we move into the busy December schedule.
Games between these rivals have been pretty competitive in recent seasons and there are not usually a lot of goals when they have faced off.
An injury time goal helped push the total above two goals when these teams met at Molineux in January, but this feels like a fixture that will be played in a tense atmosphere with the three points so important to both Wolves and Nottingham Forest.
Before that game in January, 5 of the 6 games played between these teams had finished with less than three goals shared out.
Wolves have been in miserable form, which makes them hard to trust, but Nottingham Forest have been getting back to basics by becoming a bit more solid at the back and countering.
A 0-0 or 1-1 draw would not be a big surprise, but you also cannot rule out a narrow home or away win and the overriding feeling is that this will be a fixture that does not follow recent Premier League trends and finish below the 2.5 goal line set.
