2025-12-05 - Mainz vs Borussia Monchengladbach

Mainz
In an expected turn of events, Mainz sacked their head coach, Bo Henriksen, with immediate effect, after his team lost again, 4-0 against SC Freiburg last week.
The club is in search of a solution, but for now, the U23s coach Benjamin Hoffmann will take over the first team on an interim basis.
Some changes were badly needed, as this has been the worst Bundesliga start in Mainz's history, and they are now stuck at the bottom of the table.
Mainz recorded just one win in their 12 Bundesliga games so far, losing eight and drawing three. They are currently winless in eight straight matches and under huge pressure to pick up points.
Mainz is also one of the only two Bundesliga teams this season (the other is Wolfsburg) still without a home win, drawing twice and losing four of their six home matches.
Besides losing last week, they also lost their attacking midfielder, Paul Nebel (one goal in 10 appearances), through a red card last weekend.
Borussia Mönchengladbach
Borussia Mönchengladbach is going through a good spell, winning three straight and drawing against RB Leipzig last week in the Bundesliga. Their confidence is much better now than a couple of months ago, when they were last on the table.
However, they dropped out of the German DFB Cup in midweek after losing 1-2 at home to St.Pauli. They weren’t good in that game and deservedly lost, but I have a feeling they weren't that invested in the cup, and the Bundesliga gets much higher priority in their plans.
Regarding away displays in the Bundesliga, Borussia Mönchengladbach opened with three winless road games, but won their last two away matches against St.Pauli and Heidenheim without conceding.
The Betting Verdict
Despite all the troubles, Mainz has a surprisingly good record against Borussia Mönchengladbach. They are unbeaten in their last six duels against them, winning three and drawing three.
A sudden coaching change usually shakes up teams, and I am counting on the same with Mainz. They are long overdue for a home win, their first of the season, and I feel this could be it.
Next week, Mainz travels to face Bayern Munich, so a win here feels like a must. Odds on the home win are good, so let’s go with Mainz to win this match.
