Charlton Athletic have slowly but surely found themselves sliding down the Championship table having endured a four-game losing streak in the domestic second tier, resulting in The Addicks sitting in a lowly 17th place in the table.

Recent defeats to Wrexham, Southampton, Stoke City and Coventry City respectively will have done little for Charlton’s collective confidence amongst Nathan Jones’ squad and having actually picked up just two wins from their last eight matches overall in the Championship, the hosts face another tricky encounter on Saturday lunchtime.

Charlton possess a reasonable looking home record at The Valley of 4-2-2 10/9 but one wonders how the flurry of recent defeats will affect the hosts in this upcoming encounter.

Portsmouth’s campaign in the Championship continued in a downward trajectory last time out when the south coast club were dealt a 1-0 defeat at home to Bristol City which in turn became a sixth loss in eight games for John Mousinho’s side.

A rare 3-1 home win against Millwall has been Pompey’s only highlight in an otherwise forgettable sequence of results in the English second tier which also includes suffering three losses on the road within their previous defeats.

Losses on their travels at Birmingham City, Hull City and Sheffield united respectively suggest the visitors may also have their work cut out as well as their hosts on Saturday lunchtime, especially as Portsmouth hold a poor looking away record of 1-3-4 6/14 on the road to date.
