A Sports Betting Preview by Auls
Football: English Premier League
Saturday 13th December 2025 - Kick Off 3pm
Liverpool
There was plenty of drama during the game at Elland Road, but the comments made by Mo Salah at the end of the fixture has created a firestorm at Anfield. Arne Slot needed to see what kind of character his squad had when travelling to Milan for a big Champions League game without their talismanic Egyptian King, and Liverpool responded both on the pitch and in the stands exactly how the Dutchman would have wanted.
A big Champions League win will have given Liverpool's squad a boost and they will look to try and back that up in the Premier League as they return to Anfield. The Reds are 10th in the League table, but they are only 3 points behind 4th placed Crystal Palace in a tight Division and Liverpool can overtake a number of clubs with a victory on Saturday afternoon.
Liverpool are unbeaten in 4 games in all competitions since the thumping 1-4 defeat to PSV Eindhoven, while they have won twice in that time and both in matches where they have kept clean sheets. After losing back to back fixtures at home, Liverpool were held to a 1-1 draw by Sunderland most recently here.
Conor Bradley is suspended and Cody Gakpo has been ruled out. Jeremie Frimpong, Wataru Endo and Federico Chiesa are all hoping to play some part, while everyone will be waiting for the team news to see if Mo Salah has been restored to the squad before heading off to the African Cup of Nations.
Brighton
Fabian Hurzeler will have been really excited about his team's prospects as they moved into December, but Brighton are looking to bounce back after consecutive setbacks at the Amex Stadium. Unlike the hosts, Brighton have had a full week to work on the training ground ahead of this Premier League fixture and Hurzeler will be hoping his squad can make that count as they look to get back on track.
The Seagulls are 8th in the Premier League table after scoring late in the 1-1 draw with West Ham United last Sunday, while they are also just 3 points outside of the Champions League spots. Home form has been key for Brighton who have a 2-2-3 away record in the top flight where they have scored 9 goals and conceded 10.
Brighton have only lost 1 of the last 6 games played in the Premier League, but they had won 3 of 4 fixtures before that loss to Aston Villa was followed by the draw with West Ham United. Both of those games were played at home and Brighton had failed to win any of 4 on their travels in all competitions before beating Nottingham Forest 0-2 at the City Ground.
Kaoru Mitoma, Yasin Ayari and James Milner are all hoping to be involved this weekend.
Head to Head
Both Brighton and Liverpool beat the other at home in the Premier League last season.
For the second season in a row at Anfield, Liverpool came from a goal behind to beat Brighton 2-1 at home.
Prediction
All eyes will be on the Liverpool team-sheet at around 1:30pm on Saturday.
Mo Salah's explosive comments in the mixed zone following Liverpool's 3-3 draw at Elland Road have been making all of the headlines this past week and there are real concerns amongst some of the fanbase that he may have played his last game for the club.
You cannot blame Arne Slot for making a stand and leaving Salah at home in the Champions League on Tuesday and the manager will have been really pleased with his Liverpool team after the 0-1 win over Inter Milan. Adding to that is the fact that the fans were clearly behind Slot on the night and he, and the players, will need Anfield behind them on Saturday.
No one will deny it has been a disappointing opening half of the season for Liverpool, but Salah's comments have added to the pressure that the team had to be feeling.
Responding in the way they did against Inter is a huge positive and in the last four games Liverpool have looked much better defensively.
This is key for them to put some wins together and Liverpool should still have enough attacking talent to put themselves in a position to win this fixture.
Brighton will travel to the North West looking to take advantage of any uncertainty or tension within the Anfield crowd and in the home dressing room.
However, Fabian Hurzeler's men have suffered a couple of setbacks of their own and Brighton have not been nearly as convincing away from the Amex Stadium as they have been at home. They did beat Nottingham Forest at the City Ground most recently, but Brighton had been second best in losses at Arsenal and Manchester United in recent away games and they have also suffered consecutive losses here.
It wouldn't be a big surprise if Brighton were to play a part in this fixture, but Liverpool look to be rounding their way out of a really poor patch and may have enough attacking quality to edge to the three points, with or without Mo Salah.
