Saturday 20th December 2025 - Kick Off 3pm
Wolves
Another dagger was plunged into the hopes of Wolves retaining Premier League status when conceding late on at the Emirates Stadium in a 2-1 defeat to the leaders. Rob Edwards is well aware that the team need wins, not draws, but Wolves could have definitely picked up some confidence from earning a positive result and snapping a run of defeats that leaves them wondering if they are going to finish with the lowest points tally in Premier League history.
Not only do Wolves remain bottom of the Premier League table, but results over last weekend means the gap to safety has been pushed out a little further to 14 points as we edge towards the halfway stage of the campaign. The side have a miserable 0-1-7 record at Molineux in the Premier League where they have scored just 7 goals and conceded 21.
Wolves have now lost 10 in a row in all competitions and 9 of those have been successive defeats in the Premier League as the walls begin to cave in around them. They were level at half time in the most recent home Premier League game, but Manchester United crushed Wolves 1-4 by the time the final whistle blew and Wolves have now lost 5 in a row here.
Yerson Mosquera will serve a suspension, while Emmanuel Agbadou has left for the African Cup of Nations.
Brentford
It has not been the best week for Brentford fans who saw the team concede late on in a 1-1 home draw with Leeds United before being beaten in the League Cup Quarter Final at Manchester City. Manager Keith Andrews felt his team had some poor decisions go against them in that Quarter Final tie, but he will have to pick his players up and look for Brentford to earn more points in the Premier League as they look to maintain a healthy gap to the bottom three.
The Bees are 15th in the Premier League table and 7 points clear of London rivals West Ham United in the bottom three, but this will feel like a weekend in which that gap can be increased. That would mean improving a disappointing 1-0-7 away record in the Premier League where Brentford have scored just 6 goals all season.
Brentford scored late goals in a home win over Burnley, but they have not won any of 4 games in all competitions since then and been beaten 3 times. All of those defeats have been away from the Gtech Community Stadium and Brentford have actually lost 5 in a row on their travels in all competitions.
Jordan Henderson and Igor Thiago both missed the game at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday, but should be available to travel this Saturday. Dango Outtara is away with his nation.
Head to Head
Brentford took four points from Wolves last season, although the game at Molineux ended 1-1.
Wolves have not won either of the last 2 home Premier League games played against Brentford, but have beaten them here in the FA Cup in that time.
Prediction
If you are simply looking at the odds, you have to think that Brentford are very short to win this Premier League game this weekend.
Not only have they lost 7 of 8 away League games played, but Brentford have lost 5 in a row on their travels in all competitions.
However, Wolves have the look of a team that cannot be backed with any confidence and they look vulnerable even with a start on the Asian Handicap.
Last weekend they showed some resilience and character, but Wolves were beaten again and there is a different expectation when facing Premier League leaders Arsenal and a potential relegation rival in Brentford. Fans will want the team to be more proactive, but that also leaves Wolves vulnerable as they found out in home defeats to Leeds United and Burnley.
It is those defeats that perhaps means the lean should be with Brentford, who have won at West Ham United this season.
In saying that, they have lost at Nottingham Forest and Fulham without being that competitive and Brentford have been struggling for goals in recent away games. They will be without the pace and creativity of Dango Outtara this weekend and Brentford have perhaps been a little over-reliant on Penalties with little creativity displayed in recent games.
At the back they have looked more vulnerable, although Wolves may not be able to exploit that and this may be a fixture that finishes with less than three goals shared out.
All 4 Premier League games hosted by Wolves against Brentford since the latter were promoted back into the top flight have ended with less than three goals shared out.
With Wolves having scored just 7 home goals and Brentford 6 away goals, a solitary strike may be all that is needed to secure the points.
Over the last few days, the money seems to have leaned to the under and that looks the best approach to take in what is a very difficult looking fixture to call.
