2025-12-27 - Burnley vs Everton
A Sports Betting Preview by Auls
Football: English Premier League
Saturday 27th December 2025 - Kick Off 3pm
Burnley
You wouldn't say time is running out for Burnley in relation to the overall relegation fight, but Scott Parker will have been feeling that his team needed some positive results to keep him in the role. They earned a point last weekend very late on at the Vitality Stadium, but Parker knows back to back League games at Turf Moor have to be exploited to get Burnley closer to Nottingham Forest outside of the relegation zone.
Despite the point picked up, Burnley are 19th in the Premier League table and they are 7 points from safety, which underlines the need to start picking up some wins. A large majority of the points earned this season have been at Turf Moor where Burnley have a 2-1-5 record in the top flight.
Burnley looked on course for an eighth Premier League defeat in a row when trailing going into injury time last weekend, but the 1-1 draw at Bournemouth will feel like a lift. The side have lost 4 in a row at Turf Moor and the concern for the board is that they have battled to narrow defeats to the likes of Crystal Palace and Fulham in recent fixtures here.
Hannibal Mejbri is suspended, while Maxime Esteve is a doubt.
Everton
David Moyes will have felt his team deserved a Penalty in the narrow defeat to Arsenal last Saturday, although privately he will know his team need to be a lot better if they are going to reach the ambitions the manager has set out. In recent weeks Everton have been earning plenty of plaudits for the results produced, although back to back defeats have just slowed momentum.
The Toffees are 10th in the Premier League table and they are just 5 points behind the top four places, although the main goal may be reaching any European competition. They make a relatively short trip this weekend with a 3-1-4 away record and Everton have scored 7 goals and conceded 10 in those matches.
Everton had won 4 of the previous 5 Premier League games before losing to Chelsea and Arsenal without scoring a goal. After winning 0-1 in back to back away League games at Manchester United and Bournemouth, Everton were beaten at Stamford Bridge in the last away game played.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is a doubt for this fixture.
Head to Head
Two seasons ago, Everton beat Burnley twice in the Premier League and also got the better of them in the League Cup.
Burnley had been unbeaten in 3 at Turf Moor against Everton before the 0-2 defeat in December 2023.
Prediction
This feels like a really important game for Burnley, but perhaps more so for Scott Parker with the January transfer window opening next week.
The manager has to show the board that he can find a way to guide his team towards safety and they have to build on the point earned at the Vitality Stadium last week.
Burnley have not played badly in recent home games against Crystal Palace and Fulham, but ultimately they have lost both games and they need to change those fortunes. The point at Bournemouth has snapped a run of defeats, but Burnley need wins and that does build a different kind of pressure on the team.
In saying that, Everton do not feel like a great bet at odds on to win this fixture, even if they did win on their last visit to Turf Moor two years ago.
Prior to that, Everton had not won here in 3 consecutive visits, while this is a team that have been inconsistent at both ends of the pitch. Back to back 0-1 wins at Manchester United and Bournemouth are impressive, although it does mean Everton will offer opportunities for a side like Burnley to do enough to avoid a defeat, much like Leeds United and Sunderland have done when hosting David Moyes' team.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall missing out would be a significant blow for Everton, although Jack Grealish can be very creative.
However, much like last weekend, the focus can be on shutting down the England international and exposing some of the holes that have been left without Dewsbury-Hall and the likes of Iliman Ndiaye who is away on international duty.
Of course Burnley may be one of the weaker teams in the Division and so they can be hard to trust, much as they were in home defeats to Crystal Palace and Fulham.
However, they actually were a little unfortunate in both games and Burnley can make use of the start on the Asian Handicap to avoid defeat against what looks a vulnerable odds on favourite this weekend.
The first goal will be key, but if Burnley can force their way in front, they should have enough to avoid a defeat.
