Bournemouth
There was nothing wrong with the commitment and the level of performance reached, but Bournemouth will be frustrated that another Premier League fixture has passed without a victory. Manager Andoni Iraola looks like he has managed to convince the board to keep hold of Antoine Semenyo for a few more days before his inevitable move to Manchester City, but some fans may be concerned about the future of the Spaniard himself with big vacancies opening up in early January.
Any decision about his future will be made in the summer and the focus for Andoni Iraola is to turn around what has been prolonged poor form for his Bournemouth team. The run has seen them slip all the way down to 15th in the Premier League table, although still 9 points clear of the bottom three despite the loss to Arsenal this past weekend. That defeat means Bournemouth have a 4-4-2 record at the Vitality Stadium this season.
Bournemouth have now failed to win any of the last 11 Premier League games and the defeat to Arsenal means they have been beaten 6 times in that run. It has extended the run to 5 without a win at the Vitality Stadium and both Premier League defeats have been suffered in that stretch.
The squad that was available on Saturday is set to be used again.
Tottenham Hotspur
Another home game finished without a victory for Tottenham Hotspur and the team were expectedly booed off by the supporters who continue to be frustrated with the direction of the club. Thomas Frank is not likely to throw in the towel, but he will have seen clubs like Chelsea and Manchester United make managerial changes when much higher in the standings than Tottenham Hotspur and that could make the manager a little nervy.
He needs some big results and some consistency with Tottenham Hotspur 13th in the Premier League table, but still only 4 points behind the top five places which may all provide Champions League Football next season. They have been much better away from home where Spurs have a 5-3-2 record in the top flight and that may offer some encouragement ahead of this game.
Tottenham Hotspur are unbeaten in 3 games, but back to back draws with Brentford and Sunderland have not gone down very well with the fans. The side head to the South Coast having lost 1 of the last 4 away games played, although Spurs have won just 1 of the previous 7 on their travels in all competitions.
Mohammed Kudus had to go off with an injury on Sunday and is expected to miss some time, but Xavi Simons is available after serving a suspension. Destiny Udogie could be involved in the FA Cup Third Round tie this weekend, but is not expected to be available on Wednesday night.
Head to Head
An early goal helped Bournemouth to a 0-1 win at Tottenham Hotspur back in August.
They had been beaten twice in a row at the Vitality Stadium against Spurs, but Bournemouth snapped that run with a 1-0 victory in December 2024.
Prediction
There are a host of clubs in the Premier League that are not offering a lot of consistency and that has contributed to a tight table between the top and bottom three.
Neither Bournemouth nor Tottenham Hotspur look very trustworthy, but the underlying numbers are certainly suggesting the former are closer to finding some form.
They gave Arsenal as good as they got on Saturday and Bournemouth have been creating plenty of chances, while keeping Antoine Semenyo for at least one more game looks to be a real positive. Of course the attacker may be lacking a bit of focus as he looks to avoid any issue that prevents him from leaving as he hopes, but Bournemouth attacked with some clarity on Saturday and perhaps deserved more than a 2-3 defeat to the current League leaders.
Of course the goals being conceded of late is making it very difficult for Bournemouth and that is a big reason they have failed to win any of the last 11 Premier League games.
Some of those have been unfortunate with Bournemouth missing chances that would have led to three points, but they will need to be clinical against this Tottenham Hotspur team if they are to beat them for a third time in four League matches played.
Thomas Frank will set his team up to be tough to break down and they have certainly benefited from that style away from home.
Unfortunately for the manager, the supporters are finding it hard to get behind such tactics and Tottenham Hotspur have been accused of being boring.
Being booed off at home has become a regular occurrence, but Spurs will travel to the Vitality Stadium having secured consecutive away clean sheets since the 3-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest. Both Brentford and Crystal Palace will feel they should have found a way through against Tottenham Hotspur, and Bournemouth are likely going to be thinking they have the qualities to make those opportunities count.
Once again this looks a tough game to call in a Division where there really is very fine margins in individual fixtures that are making the difference.
However, the underlying data is suggesting Tottenham Hotspur have been riding their luck at times, especially away from home, and Bournemouth may just have enough about them to secure three points.
