Everton v Leeds United

This game is live on TV

Everton

David Moyes must be wondering what is to come from his Everton team in each game as they continue to be wildly inconsistent. The Premier League is the sole focus for the club through the remainder of the season and the 0-1 win at Aston Villa will have given Everton a real momentum boost, especially with some key players returning from the African Cup of Nations and injuries beginning to clear up.

A clear target of earning a spot in European Football has been set by the veteran manager and Everton are 10th in the Premier League table, but just 4 points behind 4th placed Liverpool. The standings will likely look different by the time Everton kick off on Monday night at Hill Dickinson Stadium where they have a 4-3-4 record within the Division.

Everton had won 1 of the previous 7 games in all competitions, including being beaten in the FA Cup Third Round on Penalties by Sunderland, but somehow found a victory at Villa Park last Sunday. That is yet another big away result produced by The Toffees, but they have not won any of the last 4 at Hill Dickinson Stadium and have lost twice in that run.

Jack Grealish is reported to have fractured his foot and could be ruled out for the season, while Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is hoping to return next weekend. Both Idrissa Gueye and Iliman Ndiaye are back from the African Cup of Nations and should be involved, while Michael Keane completes his suspension.

Leeds United

Daniel Farke may have been fearing the Sack a couple of months ago, but his Leeds United squad have rallied around the manager and another late winner last weekend has maintained a solid gap to the relegation zone. Nothing is confirmed yet, but the positive signs are there for Leeds United to retain their place in the top flight, although that does not mean the players can afford to take their eyes off the prize.

Despite the win over Fulham, Leeds United are still 16th in the Premier League table and 8 points clear of a West Ham United team making significant January investment to close that gap. Every point matters for Leeds United who travel to Merseyside with a 1-3-7 away record in the top flight.

Leeds United have lost 1 of the last 10 games played in all competitions and even that defeat came courtesy of a goal very deep into injury time at Newcastle United earlier this month. They have won consecutive games since that setback, and Leeds United had played out 3 away Premier League draws in succession before losing 4-3 at St James' Park.

Anton Stach is hoping to be passed fit to travel.

Head to Head

A controversial late Penalty was converted by Leeds United in a 1-0 home win over Everton back in August.

They had lost 4 of the last 5 visits to Goodison Park as Leeds United prepare to play at this new Stadium for the first time.

Prediction

10th placed Everton do sum up the way the Premier League has seemingly been in each and every week- a team that can keep clean sheets in wins at Old Trafford and Villa Park will concede four at home against Brentford.

With that being said, it is really difficult to know what is to come from Everton.

They are without Jack Grealish this week, but some players have returned from the African Cup of Nations and that will offer Everton a boost. David Moyes will not be expecting his team to capitulate as they did in the defeat to Brentford, while he will feel the red cards handed out to his team played a real factor in the 1-1 draw with Wolves here.

However, Everton are going to have to be focused when former striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin returns with his Leeds United team.

Daniel Farke's men have been in very strong form and the late winner over Fulham maintains the momentum that has been built up.

Even in the one recent loss at Newcastle United, Leeds United will feel they deserved a bit more, while the resiliency to earn draws at Sunderland, Brentford and Liverpool have to be admired.

Leeds United play with some composure when they get forward and they will certainly give Everton something to think about.

Picking a winner looks incredibly tough- you can make a case for all three results.

But this being a game involving Everton, it may pay out to take the biggest price on offer and that would be the draw, which is not a result that has been unfamiliar to the visiting team.
