Everton
Two late goals saw Everton over the line at Craven Cottage on Saturday and David Moyes will feel his team are still capable of earning a spot in European Football next season. This could be important for the development of a Club that have struggled to get back to the heights of the 1980s when they were amongst the very best teams on the continent, never mind the English game.
It has been over thirty years since Everton last won silverware and that wait is going to go on after the early exit in the FA Cup, but the side are 8th in the Premier League table and just 2 points behind rivals Liverpool. Some fans may be hoping to finish above Liverpool for just the fourth time since the Premier League came together, but David Moyes and the squad will only be thinking about improving the 4-4-4 record at Hill Dickinson Stadium where Everton have scored 15 goals and conceded 16.
Everton were beaten on Penalties by Sunderland in the FA Cup Third Round, but they are unbeaten in 5 Premier League games and the victory over Fulham was the second earned in that time. The recent home form has been disappointing and Everton have not won any of the last 4 Premier League games here, while being held to draws by Wolves and Leeds United in consecutive fixtures.
Only Jack Grealish is missing from the squad ahead of this fixture.
Bournemouth
A Club like Bournemouth is always going to have a high turnover of players as they develop potential and then look to sell for big fees to some of the top Clubs around Europe. This has been a season that has been filled with those sales, but Andoni Iraola has been managing the squad very well, while those above him continue to identify strong talents to replace those departing.
They will certainly feel they deserved more than a point after dominating Aston Vill on Saturday, but the final result has pushed Bournemouth back up into 11th place in the Premier League and once again thinking about challenging for European Football. The Cherries have a 2-5-5 away record in the Premier League and that is largely down to the 30 goals conceded in those fixtures.
Bournemouth had been really struggling for form through the festive period and there were one or two concerns that they may be dragged back into a relegation scrap, but those fears have eased. The side are unbeaten in 5 Premier League games and have picked up 11 points from a possible 15 in that run. Bournemouth beat Wolves away from home in the top flight in the last away game played, but that was the first victory on their travels since the end of August.
Tyler Adams is a doubt after a long-term injury and may not be risked with Bournemouth enjoying a mini break after this fixture. Both Ben Gannon-Doak and Marcus Tavernier are hoping to return later this month.
Head to Head
Everton upset the odds and won 0-1 at the Vitality Stadium in early December.
They had won back to back home games against Bournemouth, but last season The Cherries won twice at Goodison Park.
Prediction
Two mid-table Premier League teams face off on Tuesday hoping to build on some recent successes and try and put some momentum together.
Both Everton and Bournemouth will believe they can challenge for European spots come the end of the season with all of the focus remaining being on the Premier League. They were both beaten on Penalties in the FA Cup Third Round, but have continued to churn out positive results in the Premier League around that exit.
It is Everton who head into this game behind a win- they came from behind to score two late goals to beat Fulham having ridden their luck in the first half.
The visiting team may not have won this weekend, but Bournemouth absolutely dominated Aston Villa and Andoni Iraola will be aware that similar levels of performances would result in many more wins than not going forward.
This does look a tough game to call on paper with both teams having positives, but the prices look tempting on Bournemouth, even with their poor away record in mind.
Bournemouth did win at Wolves most recently and they continue to score a lot of away goals, although it is the defensive issues on their travels that catch the eye. However, they may feel that Everton are not exactly the most convincing team in the final third and that could offer up some opportunities for another away victory on Merseyside having won on 3 of the last 5 visits to Everton, albeit Goodison Park rather than the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Over the last couple of months, some of the strongest Everton results have been away from home and that cannot be ignored either. There is always a different pressure playing in front a supporter base that expects more from Everton and that could make this a tense game considering the amount of quality Bournemouth have on the counter attack.
In the last couple of weeks, it has been stated that simply picking the biggest price in Everton games would go very close to winning and that has been the case in the two away games played at Brighton and Fulham. Draws have been a big part of the fixtures, but these two clubs have played 12 games in a row against one another without a stalemate and that means Bournemouth may be the right play at the bigger price.
They certainly have the attackers to win at Hill Dickinson Stadium, but it is likely going to be another Everton game where a late goal determines all.
