2026-02-22 - Heidenheim vs VfB Stuttgart

A Sports Betting Preview by Niko

Heidenheim v VfB Stuttgart
Football; Germany: Bundesliga
Voith Arena - Heidenheim

Heidenheim

Things look difficult for Heidenheim. Winless in nine straight games, and losing all their last four, put them at the rock bottom of the Bundesliga table. They are six points behind the relegation playoff spot before this round, and all signs point to the inevitable – direct relegation.

Heidenheim is facing a battle against the odds. Here’s a fact – in all of the past 10 Bundesliga seasons, the team sitting in last place after 22 games ended up automatically relegated in the end. The only exception to this rule was VfB Stuttgart in the season 2014/15, who survived in the end.

Another motivation for Heidenheim could be that they were also at the bottom until the 26th round last season, yet they survived after playing relegation playoff matches. Will they do it again? I wouldn’t bet on it.

Heidenheim lost 1-0 to Augsburg last weekend, and it was also their second game in a row without scoring.

So far, Heidenheim has won only three Bundesliga matches, with two of those at home. However, they are currently winless in four straight home games, losing three of them.

VfB Stuttgart

VfB Stuttgart are enjoying their Bundesliga season, fighting for a top-four finish. They won three of their last four Bundesliga games, including a dominant 3-1 win over Koln last weekend.

Since the start of this year, VfB Stuttgart has picked up 16 of the possible 21 points (five wins, a draw, and a defeat), which puts them seven points better off than at this stage last season. Who would have thought that they would be even better after their top players, including striker Serhou Guirassy, had left last summer?

Regarding recent away performances, VfB Stuttgart won three straight on the road before losing their last away game 2-1 against St.Pauli.

Last Thursday evening, VfB Stuttgart put on another excellent display in their Europa League playoff game away at Celtic, winning 1-4, even though they fielded a mixed lineup.

The Betting Verdict

VfB Stuttgart narrowly beat Heidenheim 1-0 in their first duel earlier this season, and their overall head-to-head Bundesliga record is evenly split – two wins for each side and a draw.

I consider Heidenheim already down and relegated, no doubt. Yes, they will collect some points here and there, but it won’t be enough. The team atmosphere is very bad after a long stretch of winless games and consecutive losses, and I don’t see how they will miraculously turn it around against VfB Stuttgart.

The visitors are in excellent shape, chasing the Champions League spots, so back VfB Stuttgart to win this match at decent odds.
