Bournemouth
They may have been the better team on Saturday, but conceding first made life difficult for Bournemouth and some wasteful finishing contributed to two dropped points at home. Andoni Iraola will be pushing his players to bounce back in the next Premier League fixture when Bournemouth host one of the main rivals for European Football at the Vitality Stadium.
They are 10th in the Premier League table after results this past weekend and Bournemouth have slipped to 4 points behind the top seven positions in the standings. The Cherries may not lose a lot of home League games, but the 6-6-2 record here will still need to be concluded with more wins than draws if Bournemouth are going to earn a spot in a UEFA competition.
Bournemouth are unbeaten in 9 games in all competitions in normal time following the 1-1 draw with Sunderland on Saturday, although that does mean 3 of the last 4 have ended with shared points. After back to back 3-2 home wins in League matches, Bournemouth have had to settle for consecutive 1-1 draws at the Vitality Stadium against Aston Villa and Sunderland.
Evanilson scored the equaliser after coming off the bench this past weekend, but picked up a knock which meant having to be withdrawn and he is a doubt. Lewis Cook is expected back in April.
Brentford
A remarkable fixture saw Brentford take a comfortable 0-3 lead at Turf Moor, blow the lead and then need the intervention of VAR to prevent falling 4-3 behind. There was still some late drama with Brentford once again taking the lead and needing another VAR intervention to hold onto three priceless points in the race for European Football.
The season has been a really strong one under Keith Andrews, although the manager will not want his players to lose focus. His personal situation has improved with a new contract signed just days before the win at Burnley and Brentford are still 7th in the Premier League table have a 6-0-8 away record in the top flight.
Brentford have won 4 of the last 6 games in all competitions and have to be given a lot of credit for bouncing back from the surprising 0-2 defeat to Brighton by winning at Turf Moor last time out. While they were made to work much harder than would have been expected after taking a 0-3 lead, Brentford have won 4 away games in a row in all competitions.
Aaron Hickey and Vitaly Janelt both have to overcome knocks and the short turnaround may work against them. Goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher missed the game on Saturday to be with his partner who was giving birth and his situation will be fluid.
Head to Head
Brentford have already won here in the League Cup Second Round back in August and beat Bournemouth 4-1 at home in the Premier League.
Bournemouth have now lost 3 in a row at the Vitality Stadium in all competitions, including twice in a row in the Premier League.
Prediction
Both teams may have felt they deserved the maximum points in Saturday Premier League games, but it was Bournemouth who found a way to earn those in the win at Burnley.
However, it was a crazy fixture that would have seen Brentford invest a lot of physical and emotional effort and you do wonder how much they have left in the tank for a squad that is not used to playing twice in a week.
It is a short week too with this Premier League fixture set for Tuesday, but Brentford have a really good recent record here and against Bournemouth in general.
They have already beaten them twice this season and that makes it 5 straight wins overall and wins in the last 3 visits to the Vitality Stadium.
Brentford should be confident they can get forward and create chances against what has been a vulnerable Bournemouth defence and they should pose plenty of problems.
However, they will also need to find a way to contain the Bournemouth attack which has quality and talent, although a touch of inconsistency.
At home Bournemouth have been creating chances and scoring a lot of goals, but they have young players in the final third and that has led to some wastefulness. We saw more of that in the 1-1 draw with Sunderland, although that has extended the unbeaten run and Bournemouth will always play with a strong intent of getting forward.
The last 5 Premier League fixtures between the clubs have all ended with at least three goals shared out and that looks the most likely outcome of this fixture. Both teams should do enough to find the back of the net and neither team has been very content at settling for draws, even if Bournemouth have been involved in more stalemates than Brentford in recent games.
A narrow edge has to be given to Brentford and the price looks big, but goals look most likely with a 2-1 scoreline either way a result that will not surprise anyone.
