Heracles will be desperate to avoid a fifth consecutive defeat in the Dutch Eredivisie on Friday night when they entertain mid-table visitors Utrecht at their Asito Stadium having recently slipped to losses at the hands of NEC, NAC Breda, Go Ahead Eagles and PSV respectively.

Indeed, Heracles have suffered nine defeats within their last 10 matches in the domestic top flight with their singular success coming in the shape of a 2-1 home win against Fortuna Sittard back in early February.

Heracles manager Ernest Faber therefore has a tough job on his hands if he’s to steer Heracles to Eredivisie status for next season as the hosts now find themselves nine points adrift of fourth from bottom Excelsior and safety.

Utrecht sit in a more stable 8th place in the Dutch Eredivisie table where they hold the last of the European qualifying play-off spots but level on points with 9th placed Heerenveen ahead of this upcoming trip to the Asito Stadium to take on Heracles.

Despite recording a mixed bag of results throughout this Eredivisie campaign overall this term, Utrecht have raised their game in recent weeks as the visitors bring a decent looking four-match unbeaten sequence into Friday night’s encounter.

Three wins and a draw have helped lift Ron Jans’ side back into contention for a possible challenge for a European spot for next season, two of the wins being achieved on their travels with victories gained at NEC and Groningen respectively.

However, Utrecht possess an ordinary looking record away from home of 3-4-5 17/19 so they are by no means guaranteed a result at the Asito Stadium.
