Preview
A heavy loss at the hands of the Boston Celtics will have dented some of the confidence in the Cleveland Cavaliers (39-25) ranks, but they are still chasing a top four spot in the Eastern Conference. The gap to the Number 5 Seed has closed a little bit, but the Cavaliers are expected to bounce back, even if playing in a back to back spot on the schedule.
They are aided by the fact they are facing a Philadelphia 76ers (34-29) that have just slipped out of the top six in the Eastern Conference standings and who are going to be short-handed on Monday.
The latest player to go down with an injury is Tyrese Maxey and there is every reason to believe he will be sitting out for a few days in order to avoid aggravating his finger injury. Joel Embiid is already out and the 76ers may find they are not able to stay with the Cavaliers on the scoreboard.
Cleveland are not a team used to blowing out opponents and they may choose to give one or two key players a bit of rest in this one, but the loss to the Boston Celtics should mean a focused effort.
The expectation is that the Cavaliers will have the Offensive balance that can keep them on top of this 76ers team that were beaten handily on Saturday against the Atlanta Hawks. That should keep the pressure on the scoreboard and the Cleveland Defensive schemes have made it tough for opponents and especially if missing the talented pieces of the roster like the 76ers are going to have to do without.
Recent outings have not been as productive Defensively as the Cavaliers would have liked and some fans will feel that is the influence of losing Darius Garland to bring in James Harden.
However, we may not see that exposed by this 76ers roster and the Cleveland Cavaliers look capable of bouncing back from the defeat on Sunday.
The Cavaliers have won all three regular season games against the Philadelphia 76ers and two of those wins have been by double digits.
No one will deny that this is a big spread, but the Philadelphia 76ers may still struggle to get within the number if the Cleveland Cavaliers are even putting together an average performance in this regular season meeting.
