Preview

The clearest ambition through the remainder of the regular season is to finish in the top four of the Eastern Conference, but the Cleveland Cavaliers (40-25) will be very aware that the slumping New York Knicks are offering them a route into the top three. That would still mean only guaranteeing to host one Playoff Series, but would also mean Cleveland can avoid facing the top Seed in the Conference until the Finals.

In reality the key right now is to build up some rhythm and momentum that may help Cleveland have a real impact in the post-season.

The Cavaliers have won three of the last four games and bounced back from the disappointment of losing to the Boston Celtics by comfortably beating the short-handed Philadelphia 76ers. This next game is likely to be a lot more challenging for Cleveland, even if the Orlando Magic (35-28) are without a couple of key contributors.

Those absences have not prevented the Magic from winning four in a row and they are only 0.5 games behind the top six spots in the Eastern Conference and an automatic spot in the First Round of the Playoffs. The top four look pretty settled, but the fight for the Number 5 and Number 6 Seed looks like it will go down to the wire and Orlando are playing with a real confidence right now even as they continue to wait for Anthony Black and Franz Wagner to return to action.

Orlando are giving little away regarding the timeframe to expect those two players back, but they have been playing with confidence on both sides of the court. Paolo Banchero has been a huge influence and Orlando have taken advantage of the schedule to put this four game winning run on the board.

It is a run that began after consecutive home defeats to quality opponents in the Houston Rockets and Detroit Pistons so there is still something for the Magic to prove in a game like this one.

Defensive intensity is going to be at a high level if the Magic are going to find a way to contain the likes of Donovan Mitchell and James Harden. Those two have begun to find a way to share the court in a very effective way and the Cleveland Cavaliers also have the mental edge having beaten the Orlando Magic twice in January.

The Cavaliers are still getting to grips with their own Defensive schemes after making big trades to get themselves ready for the post-season, but they have begun to look a little more convincing in the last four games played.

This could show up in this regular season game and the Cleveland Cavaliers deserve to be the favourites in this road game.
