Preview

This was Seeded to be the Elite Eight game in the West portion of the NCAA Tournament and neither the Arizona Wildcats nor the Purdue Boilermakers have disappointed.

Both have been pretty dominant in making their way through the Bracket, but the biggest test was handled by the Purdue Boilermakers in the Sweet 16 Round.

It was a game in which the Defensive vulnerabilities almost proved costly against what was then the lowest Seed left in the NCAA Tournament. The Number 11 Seeded Texas Longhorns may have been better than the mark, and also are a team that runs a strong Offensive unit, but the Boilermakers used their own elite Offensive team to do just enough to edge past the SEC opponent.

There is little doubt they are going to have to be a lot better if they are to get the better of the Arizona Wildcats who just crushed the SEC Tournament winner in the Arkansas Razorbacks. This is yet another dominant victory for one of the top Seeded teams in the NCAA Tournament and many will argue that the Wildcats are the team to beat.

Unlike the opponent in this Elite Eight game, the Wildcats have prided themselves on being really strong at both ends of the court and that is where the difference can be made.

Barring a significant improvement, it is very difficult to imagine the Purdue Boilermakers in having enough to make consistent stops and that will build pressure on their own players when they have the ball. Moving the ball and trying to find the open shooters on the perimeter will be the challenge for the Boilermakers and they are likely going to live and die by the three pointer in this contest.

Second chance points will be significant, and proved to be the reason the Boilermakers were able to edge past Texas in the Sweet 16 Round, but the poor shooting display from three point range cannot be replicated.

If it is, the Boilermakers will struggle to stick with the Arizona Wildcats in this game.

Producing stops of their own looks like it will be challenging for Purdue considering the kind of balance that Arizona can produce on this side of the court. They dominate the paint, but will also believe they can exploit some of the three point Defensive vulnerabilities of the lower Seed.

It is the first time in just over two years that the teams are meeting and it was Purdue who won that regular season game in December 2023. They were a narrow underdog on that day and the Boilermakers Offensive performances means they are a team that need to be respected, but the Wildcats are playing like they know they are the best team in College Basketball and the pressure on both ends of the court may force Purdue to wilt.

Prediction

This should be a really fun Elite Eight game between two very good teams.

Well, Purdue are very good.

Arizona may be elite and the strength on both ends of the court could see the Wildcats win and cover when all is said and done.
