Parramatta have opened the season with a very mixed bag of results, getting absolutely pumped by the Storm to open their season, miraculously beating the broncos and then Dragons and back to get getting smashed by the Panthers for a 2-2 record. But given the Storm, Broncos and Panthers are all probable top 8 teams Parramatta still look like a moderate finals hope early in 2026.

Parramatta’s strength remains their powerful middle-third presence and direct style of play. With halfback Mitchell Moses controlling territory, the Eels are at their best when building pressure through repeat sets and strong kicking. Moses long kicking game is particularly valuable in turning opponents around and forcing them to work out of their own end. Captain and fullback Clint Gutherson appears to have lost a yard of pace this season but is still safe at the back, this does appear to be hindering the backline play though.

Up front, Parramatta’s forward pack is built to dominate physically. Their ability to win collisions and generate quick play-the-balls creates opportunities for their spine to attack against retreating defences. When they control possession and field position, the Eels can be extremely difficult to contain, especially at home.

Wests Tigers

The Tigers have opened season 2026 well, having a bye in round 1, they have since won 2 of matches to sit nicely in third. Wests continue to build around a new-look spine led by Jarome Luai, whose arrival has brought energy, confidence, and attacking instinct. Sadly he is out injured, moving Douehi into the halves to combine with Madden. Fullback Jahream Bula gives the Tigers genuine strike power, particularly in broken play where both players thrive.

Hooker Api Koroisau remains central to their structure, controlling the tempo around the ruck and ensuring the side maintains direction. When Koroisau is able to play on the front foot, the Tigers attack becomes far more dangerous. Their forward pack has also taken a good upward turn led by Terrell May and Samuela Fainu, they both have good engines and can play big minutes. The Tigers have shown flashes of strong attacking football, but occasional defensive lapses and periods of poor game management have prevented them from sustaining pressure across full matches.
