Preview

The attention of Basketball fans will have turned to the NCAA Tournament, which is concluded on Monday, but the NBA teams will be extremely focused on the penultimate weekend of the regular season. Most teams will have a day off on Saturday with the Final Four having the spotlight, but there are three games on deck and two of them look very good on paper.

The focus for the selections is on the second of those featuring two Eastern Conference teams hoping to secure spots in the First Round of the NBA Playoffs- the Detroit Pistons (56-21) have already done that and need a couple more wins to guarantee the top Seed in the Conference, but the situation is much more pressing for the Philadelphia 76ers (43-34).

Detroit are likely going to achieve what they want over the next few days, but for the 76ers, they are in a battle to merely finish in the top six. The victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday has just kept the noses in front of the Toronto Raptors, but the 76ers will believe they have a tougher schedule to negotiate.

Playing on a back to back is far from ideal too.

Key players like Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid and Paul George have all had issues with injury and the 76ers know they need to be ready for the Playoffs. They had 35, 34 and 38 minutes respectively in the win over the Timberwolves and there is every reason to believe Philadelphia will sit at least one of those for this back to back spot.

The Pistons will not be feeling sorry for the 76ers considering they are still without Cade Cunningham, but there is excitement in the fanbase having seen proof that there is a depth that could take Detroit pretty far over the next two months. They have won four of the last five games and this Detroit roster is going to be playing with a lot of confidence having had a day to rest between games.

In the last meeting in mid-March, Detroit had too much for an injury hit Philadelphia team at home, but this one is expected to be more competitive.

We are at that time of the year when teams 'chasing' spots are being a little overrated by the layers and that is the feeling around this spread with the Pistons only a narrow favourite. Play the game in the same situation a month ago and Detroit would likely be asked to cover a higher spread and so they look worth backing here.

Philadelphia are playing well and are desperate, but they would be foolish to risk key players and have them missing out on the Playoffs. That may swing the line later in the day, while the Detroit Pistons are playing with real authority on both ends of the court, even without Cunningham.

Nothing will be easy as the Pistons perhaps begin to think about the post-season, but they will not want to lose too much momentum.

Prediction

This is really a spot bet- the 76ers are in a tough position being asked to play a back to back, while Detroit continue to prove they are more than just Cade Cunningham and they can cover here as the narrow favourite on the road.
