Real Betis v Braga
Football: UEFA Europa League Quarter Final Second Leg
Thursday 16th April 2026 - Kick Off 8pm
This game is live on TV

Real Betis

English Premier League clubs have ended two of the last three European runs that Real Betis have put together and so they will be grateful they cannot face an opponent from that country until the Final of the Europa League. However, Real Betis still have work to do if they are going to get passed Braga in this Quarter Final, while also balancing a top five chase in the Spanish top flight.

There is every chance that the top five teams in Spain will be invited into the Champions League and Real Betis are clinging onto 5th after another draw this past weekend. Attention will turn back to the Europa League and Real Betis have to feel good about the 1-1 draw in Portugal last week. Confidence will have grown after that draw not only because of the performance produced on the day, but because Real Betis have won 4 of 5 home Europa League games in the run to the last eight.

Real Betis have stumbled over the last few months and that is backed up by the fact they have won 1 of the last 10 games played in all competitions. That victory was earned against Panathinaikos in the Europa League Last 16 Second Leg to overturn the 1-0 defeat from the First Leg. Real Betis are unbeaten in 5 at home in all competitions, but have now won 1 of the last 6 here.

Several changes were made for the 1-1 draw at Osasuna last weekend and Real Betis fans will be expecting a strong team to be selected here.

Braga

After scoring early and putting together a solid first half, Braga were perhaps guilty of not taking a real control of this Quarter Final tie. That allowed Real Betis to grow back into the contest and the 1-1 draw at home leaves Braga with a real challenge if they are going to make it through to the Semi Final of the Europa League.

They do not make the headlines that Porto, Sporting Lisbon and Benfica will make, but Braga have long been a consistent name playing in European competition. After reaching the Final in this competition in 2011, Braga have only made the Quarter Final of any UEFA competition twice before this season and not progressed further since that appearance in the 2011 Final. The side had been unbeaten in 7 away Europa League games before the loss at Ferencvaros in the Last 16 First Leg.

Braga have lost 1 of the last 5 games in all competitions and have won 3 times in that run. This is a team that has produced inconsistent results away from home and that is summed up by recent form where Braga have won 2 and lost 2 in the last 4 games played on their travels in all competitions.

Much like the opponent, Braga did make several changes to the starting eleven for the Portuguese League fixture played last weekend.

Head to Head

Last week was the first time Braga and Real Betis have met in a competitive fixture and this is the first time Betis will be hosting.

Prediction

Everything is to play for after the 1-1 draw in Portugal in the First Leg of this Europa League Quarter Final, but you have to give Real Betis a real edge having come from behind to earn a positive result.

Momentum is with the Spanish club, although the only doubts around them is the recent form which has seen Real Betis struggling to turn draws into wins. That has been the case at home, but Real Betis can take confidence from the results earned in the Europa League here throughout this campaign as well as the 4-0 thumping of Panathinaikos in the Last 16.

They will have respect for Braga considering the pressure that was put on Real Betis in the first half, but hosting should be an advantage for the Spanish club.

Braga had been unbeaten through 7 away Europa League games before the very disappointing 2-0 defeat at Ferencvaros in the Last 16 First Leg, although they have to be credited for the manner in which they turned things around at home.

While resilient, Braga have struggled for away goals this season and that is where Real Betis may end up having the edge in this contest.

It should be another tight, competitive fixture, but the home team have been very good here in the Europa League and the recent UEFA experiences have to be respected. They reached the Final of the Conference League last season and Real Betis may do just enough to narrowly battle past Braga and into the Semi Final of the Europa League in the bid to find one route back into the Champions League.
