Nottingham Forest
After scoring so soon after the opponent had been reduced to ten men to take the lead in the Europa League Quarter Final tie, Nottingham Forest fans at the City Ground would have expected a second goal to finish off the tie. Instead there was some wasteful performances in the final third, which has been an issue for them under Vitor Pereira, and Nottingham Forest had to dig in and battle against the experience of Porto.
Ultimately that early goal was enough for Nottingham Forest to win the tie 2-1 on aggregate to reach a first European Semi Final since the 1984 UEFA Cup. The owner will be happy and the players have something to look forward to, but the immediate focus of Pereira and his coaching staff turned to this big Premier League game with Nottingham Forest 16th in the standings and just 3 points clear of the bottom three. The Tricky Trees are hosting at a ground where they have a 3-6-7 record in the top flight.
Nottingham Forest are unbeaten in 6 games in all competitions, but the 1-0 win over Porto is only the second they have earned in that time. The win on Thursday ended a run of 7 without a victory at the City Ground in all competitions, but Nottingham Forest have not won any of 8 home Premier League games and have scored just 3 goals in that run.
Elliot Anderson missed the Europa League Quarter Final Second Leg after the sad passing of his mother. Chris Wood, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Murillo all picked up injuries on Thursday, but the manager is hopeful that the latter two can be involved in this pivotal fixture.
Burnley
Late goals at the end of each half helped Brighton to a pretty convincing win at Turf Moor last weekend and Scott Parker's Burnley are now on the brink of being relegated. That could be all but confirmed as soon as this weekend if they are to lose at 16th placed Nottingham Forest and West Ham United secure a victory on Monday night at Crystal Palace.
In reality whether it is this weekend or not, it is a matter of WHEN Burnley are relegated and not IF they are relegated- they are 19th in the Premier League table and 12 points from safety with just six fixtures to complete. The side have lacked enough quality at both ends of the pitch and Burnley have a 2-3-11 away record in the Premier League where they have scored 18 goals, but conceded 38.
Burnley have lost 5 of the last 7 games in all competitions and 4 of those defeats have been in 6 Premier League games played with draws against Chelsea and Bournemouth the exception. They have lost consecutive away games at Everton and Fulham since Burnley picked up 4 points from visits to London at Crystal Palace and Chelsea.
Axel Tuanzebe is hoping to be involved as he bids to overcome an injury, while Josh Laurent is back from a suspension.
Head to Head
These two teams shared out the points after a 1-1 draw at Turf Moor in September.
Nottingham Forest have not won any of the last 4 home games against Burnley in all competitions and the last 3 League fixtures have all ended 1-1.
Prediction
The layers understand the importance of this fixture for Nottingham Forest, but that has been applied to the pricing of this game.
Make no mistake about it- Nottingham Forest are very poorly priced in a game they 'need' and that does make this is a tougher fixture to find an avenue to attack.
They are right to be favoured considering the League positions of the two teams, but Burnley have found a bit of resiliency in recent away games and that makes them dangerous. Scott Parker's team have struggled for goals, but it should be noted that they have scored more away from home in the Premier League, while Burnley have suffered tight back to back defeats on their travels.
Relegation is an inevitability as far as Burnley are concerned, but they have been looking a bit more threatening going forward.
Poor decisions or simply poor play have prevented them from perhaps securing a few more positive results, but Burnley will travel to the East Midlands knowing that all of the pressure is on the hosts.
That pressure could have been turned up significantly if both Leeds United and Tottenham Hotspur have won home games on Saturday, but this is a big three points on offer for Nottingham Forest regardless and recent performances have seen Vitor Pereira's team just struggle to get over the line.
A big win at Tottenham Hotspur is the stand out result in recent weeks, but Nottingham Forest have found things much stickier at home.
Prior to the win over Porto, they had not won any of 7 home games in all competitions, while even that victory against an opponent reduced to ten men inside ten minutes was far from easy for Nottingham Forest. They had chances to finish the tie off before it became tight and nervy, but Nottingham Forest have continued to struggle for consistency in the final third and will not have been happy to see the likes of Callum Hudson-Odoi and Chris Wood go down with injuries.
Vitor Pereira is hopeful that both can be involved on Sunday, but there are some concerns about the home team.
In the last 8 home Premier League games, Nottingham Forest have scored just 3 goals and failed to hit the back of the net against the likes of Wolves and Fulham since February. However, they have been organised and do not concede a lot of goals here, which is reflected by just 7 conceded in that run of 8 home Premier League fixtures without a win.
Burnley have struggled at this level, but they have rarely been blown away and 5 of the last 8 away Premier League games have finished with less than three goals shared out.
They can certainly make things awkward for Nottingham Forest and the under play here is perhaps an appealing price at odds against.
The last 7 times Nottingham Forest have hosted Burnley have all ended with two or fewer goals on the day, while these teams have already played out one 1-1 draw this season.
9 of the last 11 home Nottingham Forest games have ended below the 2.5 line and that may be the best approach to take in what could be another nervy day for the home faithful.
