Brighton
A late goal might have been a heartbreaker for Tottenham Hotspur fans, players and management, but it might have produced an important point for Brighton who are still chasing a place in European Football. Maintaining an unbeaten run will mean Brighton have still got some momentum behind them as they prepare to play a fixture that has been moved a few days earlier than originally scheduled.
It was a weekend when a victory would have really given Brighton a chance to take advantage of slips in and around them, but they are still 9th in the Premier League table and can move into the top six with a win on Tuesday night. That would mean improving the 7-6-3 home record in the Premier League where Brighton have scored 24 goals and conceded 17.
Brighton are unbeaten in 4 Premier League games since the 0-1 defeat to Arsenal, but the 3 game winning run was ended in the 2-2 draw at Tottenham Hotspur. The side have won 2 of the last 3 at the Amex Stadium around that defeat to The Gunners and Brighton have scored twice in both victories against Nottingham Forest and Liverpool.
James Milner, Diego Gomez and Solly March have been ruled out.
Chelsea
They may have deserved more from the 0-1 defeat to Manchester United, but the pressure has ramped up on Liam Rosenior after Chelsea suffered their latest defeat without scoring a goal. Late goals for Liverpool and Aston Villa on Sunday have made things very difficult for Chelsea in their bid to finish in the top five and return to the Champions League and the manager needs a big reaction from his struggling squad.
Despite the defeat, Chelsea are still clinging onto 6th place in the Premier League table, although they are now 7 points behind the Champions League places and with five League fixtures to play. All of the pressure is on the shoulders of the Chelsea players as they travel to the South Coast with a 7-4-5 away record in this Division.
Chelsea have lost 6 of the last 7 games in all competitions with the exception being the 7-0 win over Port Vale in the FA Cup Quarter Final. The Blues have lost 4 Premier League games in succession since the 1-4 win at Villa Park and the glaring issue is the failure to score a single goal in that time. Chelsea have won 1 of the last 5 away games in all competitions in normal time and suffered back to back defeats by three goal margins at Paris Saint-Germain and Everton.
Estevao suffered an injury on Saturday that is set to keep him out, but Enzo Fernandez should be available. The hope is that Joao Pedro can return having surprisingly missed out against Manchester United, while Reece James is a doubt.
Head to Head
Chelsea led Brighton 1-0 until a sending off early in the second half and they conceded three late goals in the 1-3 defeat at Stamford Bridge in the reverse fixture.
Recent visits to the Amex Stadium have been difficult and Brighton have beaten Chelsea in 3 of the last 4 here, while only being beaten in 1 of the last 5 when hosting.
Prediction
There has to be some principle at play in this latest Premier League fixture- how on earth are Brighton priced up as big as they are to beat Chelsea at the Amex Stadium on Tuesday night?
Neither team won on Saturday night, but the recent form produced by the two respectively suggests Brighton are either being underestimated or Chelsea are overrated.
6 losses in 7 games in all competitions will have dented confidence, but it is the 4 straight Premier League defeats without scoring a goal that leaps off the page. Liam Rosenior has stated that his team have been unfortunate, which is partly true, but there is a lack of confidence in the final third that is contributing to the struggles.
Chelsea will be desperate to have Joao Pedro back to lead the line and his hat-trick at Aston Villa was the last time Chelsea won a Premier League game. He missed the fixture on Saturday against Manchester United and is a doubt, but the former Brighton player has been one of the standout performers in Rosenior's time in charge.
Having him back would help, but Estevao is the latest attacker to go down with an injury and Chelsea look vulnerable.
Brighton needed a late goal to salvage a point at Tottenham Hotspur, while devastating the desperate hosts, but they have won 2 of the last 3 here and were unfortunate to lose to Arsenal in that run. Prior to the draw at Spurs, Brighton had won 5 of 6 Premier League games played and avoiding defeat will have given the squad a boost as they look to push into 6th place in the Division.
You would think at some point the Chelsea attackers will find their form in front of goal, but this has not been a happy hunting ground in recent times. Brighton have beaten them in 3 of the last 4 at the Amex Stadium and already recorded a comfortable win at Stamford Bridge earlier in this campaign, which suggests they are being underestimated.
They are favourites, but Brighton simply look a big price.
Goals have to be expected and 8 of the last 9 between these two clubs have concluded with at least three shared out- it should hit again with the chances the teams have been creating, but the price is plenty short for that to happen.
Instead, the much more appealing price on paper is backing Brighton to keep the pressure on Chelsea's young manager and coming out on top in an entertaining fixture at what looks a considerably bigger price than the current form suggests it should be.
