Brighton v Wolves
Football: English Premier League
Saturday 9th May 2026 - Kick Off 3pm

Brighton

Fabian Hurzeler has been rewarded for Brighton's recent form with a new extension to his contract as manager, but he will feel his team missed a big opportunity last weekend. They gave away some sloppy goals in the 3-1 loss at Newcastle United and that means Brighton were unable to capitalise on defeats for Liverpool and Aston Villa later in the same weekend.

That defeat has just forced Brighton to slip down the Premier League standings into 8th place in the Division, but they remain 2 points behind 6th placed Bournemouth and 8 behind the Champions League places. Games are running out for Brighton, but Fabian Hurzeler has to believe his team can still force their way back into Europe by improving the 8-6-3 record at the Amex Stadium.

Brighton had only lost 1 of the previous 8 Premier League games and had produced 6 wins in that time before the disappointing defeat in the North East. They are back at home this weekend where The Seagulls have won 3 of the last 4 Premier League fixtures and the sole exception was a very competitive defeat to Champions elect Arsenal.

Diego Gomez, Mats Wieffer, Solly March and James Milner are all hoping to be involved in the match day squad.

Wolves

Relegation has long been confirmed and the remainder of May will be very much about learning more about the Wolves squad and which members could be important ahead of the return to the Championship. Manager Rob Edwards has been giving players an opportunity to impress, but some will already be aware that they will be moving on in the summer and that has led to inconsistent performances.

The 1-1 draw with Sunderland last weekend was heavily influenced by an early sending off for the away team, but Wolves have clawed to within 2 points of Burnley in the bid to avoid being relegated as the bottom club. The 0-5-12 away record is a key reason for the position Wolves have found themselves all season.

Wolves have not won any of the last 6 in all competitions and they had suffered 3 straight Premier League defeats before the draw with ten man Sunderland last Saturday. That result was earned at home and Wolves have lost 3 of the last 4 away Premier League games, including a 4-0 defeat at West Ham United and 3-0 defeat at Leeds United most recently.

Jose Sa is expected to miss out, while Ladislav Krejci is a doubt.

Head to Head

Wolves and Brighton played out a 1-1 draw at Molineux back in October.

Brighton are unbeaten in 4 at home against Wolves in all competitions, but have had to settle for consecutive League draws at the Amex Stadium against this opponent since thumping Wolves 6-0.

Prediction

The Premier League has been a Division where teams have been able to put together streaky results and that is both in a positive and negative direction.

The challenge for Fabian Hurzeler and his Brighton team is to avoid finishing the season in a slump after losing 3-1 at Newcastle United last weekend.

Prior to that result, Brighton looked to be favourites to finish 6th in the Premier League table and that may yet be rewarded with a place in the Champions League. Any European Football has been the target for the club under the current manager and Brighton would love to become a regular UEFA competitor and so there is still all to play for.

You could argue that this is the best opponent they could have picked to bounce back from last weekend's defeat and that is because Wolves have looked to have put their feet up and think about the off-season.

Players know changes are coming and Wolves have really capitulated in recent away games at West Ham United and Leeds United.

The key for Brighton is to push forward and just show Wolves it is going to be a tough day in the office- Leeds United did that and ran out comfortable winners.

The visiting team have struggled for goals all season and Brighton had been in fine form before the defeat at St James' Park. Being back at home should help where Brighton have won 3 of the last 4 Premier League games, including strong performances in seeing off Liverpool and Chelsea.

Recent games hosting Wolves have been difficult, but this current group is not as strong as those that have visited this part of the South Coast in the last couple of years. That can only encourage a Brighton team that do have quality and energy in the final third and The Seagulls can come away with the three points and a relatively comfortable margin of victory.
